About The Position

Brooke Army Medical Center (BAMC) is hiring an Operating Room Health Technician (Surgical) at Fort Sam Houston, Joint Base San Antonio. BAMC is a 425-bed academic medical center and the Department of Defense’s largest facility and only Level 1 trauma center. Its staff of more than 8,000 military personnel, civilians, and contractors provides care to wounded service members and the San Antonio community. The technician supports surgical procedures by transporting patients, preparing supplies and instruments, assisting the anesthetist, and cleaning and preparing the operating room. Applicants must be U.S. citizens and meet the specialized experience, education, or combined education-and-experience qualifications stated in the posting. This is a Direct Hire Solicitation.

Requirements

U.S. citizenship.
Meet the qualification requirements through one of the stated pathways: one year of specialized experience; one full year of graduate-level education in a directly related field; or a qualifying combination of education and experience.
Specialized experience must include assisting in surgical procedures, preparing supplies and/or equipment in the operating room, or preparing operating rooms post-procedure.
A resume must clearly describe relevant experience; transcripts are required when qualifying based on education.
Foreign education used to meet qualification requirements must be evaluated as equivalent to education in an accredited U.S. program, or receive full credit from a U.S.-accredited college or university.

Responsibilities

Transport patients from hospital units to the Operating Room while assuring safe transportation.
Select, assemble, and organize supplies, equipment, and instruments for specific surgical procedures.
Assist the anesthetist during induction and throughout the surgical procedure.
Clean the operating room after surgery.
Arrange instruments in trays in the correct manner.
Position or assist with positioning and draping the patient for the specific procedure.
Perform other duties as assigned.
