About The Position

Reporting to the Health Services Director, the Health Services Manager is responsible for providing strategic and operational leadership to the Emergency Department, Ambulatory Care and Ophthalmology Clinic. Working collaboratively and consultatively with patients/clients, families, management, staff, physicians, community partners, and service providers, the Manager applies strategic and analytical thinking to address challenges to achieve the ultimate goal of high quality, safe and cost effective services to better support patient experience/outcome. The Manager exhibits sound professional judgment and initiative while working within the framework and objectives of the Health Services Program and the Mission and Vision and Strategic Directions of Nova Scotia Health, and incorporates into daily practice the Core Competencies and Values of Nova Scotia Health. This position is based at Cape Breton Regional Hospital; travel to NSGH, NW and GBH will be required.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a health related discipline required
  • Minimum 5 years recent clinical experience in a position included in this portfolio.
  • Minimum 5 years recent experience in a leadership and/or management position with responsibilities related to program planning, evaluation, human resource and financial management within a unionized environment.
  • Experience developing and facilitating strategies consistent with the principles of Organizational Health.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in program planning, financial and human resource management, oral and written communication and interpersonal effectiveness.
  • Excellent leadership, organizational, analytical, problem solving, conflict resolution, negotiation, strategic thinking and decision-making skills, with the ability to successfully change, adapt, overcome, and cope with unexpected challenges.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain strategic partnerships and collaborative working relationships with a variety of internal and external partners across the healthcare continuum.
  • Demonstrated commitment to employee and self-development and continuous quality improvement.
  • Proficiency with computer applications including Microsoft Word, Power Point, Excel, internet, email, and the ability to utilize health information systems for decision support.
  • Valid Nova Scotia Driver’s License and access to reliable vehicle.
