About The Position

The Health Sensing HW team develops groundbreaking health sensors that are central to helping our customers live a healthier lifestyle. We are looking for a sensor engineer with a desire to innovate in the space of optical sensors and health sensing features. Our team helps support health sensing features by working through sensor and algorithm development, performance and power tradeoffs across multiple generations of hardware, and a wide range of operating conditions, user variability, and ambient conditions. The team you will join is responsible for designing and delivering optical-based health features for Apple's wearable devices. We are highly collaborative and partner with a variety of teams across Apple. You will work closely with internal and cross-functional teams to tackle challenges involving sensors and algorithms, and you will play a key role in developing solutions to enable optical sensing features.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of circuits/sensors.
  • Strong software development skills, with proficiency in Python.
  • Excellent verbal communications skills.
  • Minimum requirement of a bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or related field.

Nice To Haves

  • Collaborative and willing to work in cross-functional fast-paced technology development.
  • Exceptional problem solving skills.
  • Familiar with signal processing.
  • Experience in firmware development and knowledge of HW/FW development cycle.
  • Knowledge of EE, including noise modeling, and integrated circuits.
  • Experience with sensor interfacing, signal conditioning, and signal-to-noise analysis.
  • Familiarity with health sensor design and signal acquisition.

Responsibilities

  • Solicit and consolidate requirements from sensor and algorithm engineers to develop strategies for operating the HW and deploying high performance features
  • Use simulation infrastructure to predict system/user performance across a range of operating conditions including HW/FW settings, user physiology, ambient conditions, etc.
  • Evaluate the impact of design choices on engineering metrics; propose trade-offs; and communicate the results and insights to cross-functional teams.
  • Apply validation strategies for design decisions
  • Lead failure analysis efforts and collaborate closely with cross functional teams to develop mitigation strategies
