About The Position

STEM Preparatory Academy is seeking a passionate and experienced Health Science CTE Instructor – Medical Assisting to lead our high school healthcare pathway program. This role is designed for a healthcare professional who wants to transition their clinical expertise into the classroom and inspire the next generation of healthcare professionals. The ideal candidate will bring real-world medical experience and a passion for developing students through hands-on instruction, industry preparation, and mentorship. The Health Science CTE Instructor will prepare students for careers in healthcare while supporting successful completion of Tennessee Health Science pathway coursework and industry-recognized certifications, including opportunities to earn credentials such as the Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) certification.

Requirements

Active healthcare credential or certification, including one of the following preferred: Certified Medical Assistant (CMA), Registered Medical Assistant (RMA), Registered Nurse (RN), Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), Paramedic, Other approved healthcare certifications.
Minimum of 2–5 years of recent full-time clinical healthcare experience preferred.
High school diploma required.
Ability to obtain Tennessee CTE teaching authorization (Occupational Specialist License).
Ability to secure a teaching permit if not currently licensed.
Authorization to work in the United States without employer sponsorship.
Successful completion of Tennessee Department of Education/MNPS background check and fingerprinting requirements.

Nice To Haves

Associate or Bachelor’s degree in healthcare, nursing, or related field preferred.
Active Tennessee teaching license with appropriate endorsement.
Previous experience training, mentoring, or supervising healthcare professionals.
Experience working with high school students or young adults.

Responsibilities

Teach Tennessee-approved Health Science CTE curriculum focused on: Anatomy and physiology, Medical terminology, Healthcare careers, Patient care procedures, Medical office operations, Healthcare ethics and professionalism.
Teach 3 of 4 classes on an alternating A/B 90-minute block schedule.
Facilitate one 30-minute Personalized Learning Time (PLT) block focused on intervention, enrichment, skill development, or student support.
Develop rigorous lesson plans aligned to Tennessee CTE standards.
Submit weekly lesson plan arcs with clear objectives, assessments, and student exemplars.
Collaborate with CTE team members through: Department planning, Coaching meetings, Professional Learning Communities (PLCs).
Data-driven instructional planning.
Monitor student progress through academic and industry skill assessments.
Provide hands-on instruction and assessment of healthcare skills, including: Vital signs collection and patient assessment, Infection control procedures, Medical safety practices, Phlebotomy techniques, EKG placement and procedures, Patient communication and professionalism, Clinical documentation, Healthcare workplace expectations.
Create a classroom environment that mirrors professional healthcare settings while ensuring students develop confidence and technical competency.
Instruct students in: Electronic Health Records (EHR), Medical office procedures, Patient scheduling, Insurance and healthcare documentation, HIPAA compliance and patient privacy, Professional communication skills.
Develop partnerships with local healthcare organizations.
Coordinate job shadowing experiences, internships, and clinical opportunities.
Support students participating in healthcare-related career experiences.
Connect classroom learning to real-world healthcare careers.
Serve as the advisor for STEM Prep’s HOSA – Future Health Professionals chapter.
Mentor students participating in regional and state competitions.
Develop leadership opportunities connected to healthcare careers.
Encourage students to explore healthcare pathways beyond high school.
Maintain an 8:00 AM – 4:00 PM workday.
Participate in weekly staff huddles.
Complete assigned arrival, dismissal, lunch, hallway, and transition duties.
Attend department and grade-level meetings.
Participate in: Three weeks of summer faculty training, Biweekly professional learning sessions, School-wide events and family engagement activities.
Support STEM Prep’s academic and cultural expectations.
Serve as an advisor to a small cohort of students.
Support academic progress, goal setting, and career planning.
Deliver advisory lessons focused on: College and career readiness, Social-emotional learning, Professional development.
Build strong relationships with students and families.
Maintain a positive classroom culture centered around: Integrity, Imagination, Drive, Collaboration, Inquiry.
