About The Position

ENWIN Utilities Ltd. is seeking a Health & Safety Specialist to provide expertise on health and safety concerns, guide management on regulatory compliance and program development, investigate issues, and administer an effective health and safety management system. The role involves assisting in setting safety program goals, developing safety standards and work practices, implementing performance monitoring strategies to reduce risk, reporting on safety system performance, and acting as the primary contact for safety-related regulatory agencies. Additionally, the specialist will administer disability management claims, ensure proper reporting and documentation (including WSIB reports), manage return-to-work processes, and ensure compliance with WSIB, AODA, and OH&SA.

Requirements

  • University Degree in Health and Safety related field with a minimum of 2 years of experience; OR College Diploma in Health and Safety related field with a minimum of 3 years of experience; OR combination of comparable education, utility sector skilled trade experience and Certified Health & Safety Consultant designation (or ability to obtain).
  • Comprehensive knowledge and application of health and safety legislation and regulations.
  • Knowledge and experience with reporting requirements, standards, practices and administration.
  • Knowledge with utility sector specific lock-out, tag out, confined space entry/rescue and fall arrest.
  • Experience managing work related and non-work related disability claims.
  • Strong attention to detail, problem solving, and analytical skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and collaborate with all internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to effectively facilitate the collaboration of work teams.
  • Demonstrated project planning skills, ability to prioritize and oversee several responsibilities concurrently.
  • Advanced Microsoft Office skills (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) and health and safety reporting software.

Responsibilities

  • Provide expertise on health and safety related concerns.
  • Guide management staff on regulatory compliance and program development.
  • Investigate health and safety issues and concerns.
  • Administer an effective health and safety management system.
  • Assist in the establishment of safety program goals, objectives, and KPI's.
  • Develop safety standards and work practices.
  • Implement and maintain performance and monitoring strategies for health and safety to reduce overall risk of injury or illness.
  • Report in various forums and formats on safety system performance.
  • Act as the principle point of contact for the organization in dealing with safety related regulatory, licensing and inspecting agencies.
  • Administer and act as a resource for all disability management related claims.
  • Ensure appropriate reporting and documentation including WSIB reports.
  • Manage the return to work process and work reintegration of employees.
  • Ensure compliance with WSIB, AODA and OH&SA.
