About The Position

We are seeking a skilled Health and Safety Specialist to review, evaluate, and enhance safety standards across Correctional Industries and institutional environments. In this dynamic position, you will design and implement crucial programs to prevent disease and injury, conduct comprehensive OSHA compliance inspections, and deliver essential safety education to protect staff and residents alike.

Requirements

  • In-depth knowledge of OSHA rules, regulations, safety standards, and chemical safety principles.
  • Strong ability to identify potential hazards, analyze complex situations, and apply general rules to solve workplace safety challenges.
  • Excellent active listening, oral, and written communication skills; proven capability in curriculum design and training instruction.
  • Keen perception for detecting subtle patterns, risks, or compliance deviations in distracting environment settings.
  • The ability to listen to and understand information and ideas presented through spoken words and sentences.
  • The ability to communicate information and ideas in speaking so others will understand.
  • The ability to tell when something is wrong or is likely to go wrong. It does not involve solving the problem, only recognizing there is a problem.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct OSHA-regulated workplace inspections, ensuring strict adherence to federal, state, and agency health and safety regulations.
  • Evaluate physical, biological, chemical, and ergonomic hazards; recommend corrective actions and protective measures.
  • Investigate workplace incidents to identify root causes and implement effective preventive solutions.
  • Develop and lead engaging safety education programs, demonstrating proper safety equipment usage and emergency procedures.
  • Maintain detailed inspection records, update emergency response plans, and audit fire prevention and first-aid readiness.
  • Ensures compliance with applicable federal and/or state laws, regulations, and/or agency rules, standards and guidelines, etc.
  • Issues or recommends issuance of orders, citations, sanctions, and/or warnings for infractions involving violations of federal and/or state laws, rules and regulations.
  • Maintains detailed inspection or investigation records, prepares reports, and attends to other related administrative requirements.
  • Monitors and evaluates operations, programs, processes and/or practices for quality and effectiveness; makes recommendations for improvement.
  • Provides consultation, makes recommendations, gives appropriate advice, and/or facilitates decisions related to public information.
  • Investigates accidents to identify causes or to determine how such accidents might be prevented in the future.
  • Recommends measures to help protect workers from potentially hazardous work methods, processes, or materials.
  • Inspects and/or evaluates workplace environments, equipment, or practices to ensure compliance with safety standards and government regulations.
  • Conducts safety training or education programs and demonstrates the use of safety equipment.
  • Maintains or updates emergency response plans or procedures.
  • Inspects specified areas to ensure the presence of fire prevention equipment, safety equipment, or first-aid supplies.
