About The Position

Haley & Aldrich is seeking a Health & Safety Specialist to join their growing team. This role is a technical field support position working with highly skilled professionals on diverse project teams in a dynamic environment. The position is full-time and associated with the Costa Mesa, CA office, with most local field activities in Carson and Wilmington. The Health & Safety Specialist will play a critical role in maintaining and improving site health and safety programs for environmental and site characterization projects for clients in the energy, real estate, industrial, and manufacturing sectors within the West region. The role involves both field and office work to ensure safety compliance and promote a culture of health & safety for staff and subcontractors. This position requires field presence on project sites during active mobilizations in the Los Angeles Area. Travel up to 50% throughout the West region to support Bay Area, Pacific Northwest, and Hawaii projects with technical expertise and hands-on health & safety solutions is expected.

Requirements

  • B.S. in Safety Engineering, Occupational Health & Safety, Industrial Hygiene, or related discipline. (Relevant experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.)
  • At least 5+ years of consulting experience with a Health & Safety background supporting HAZWOPER environmental and site characterization projects for energy and industrial manufacturing clients.
  • Strong commitment to compliance with company and client Health & Safety protocols.
  • Demonstrated comprehensive knowledge of applicable government regulations, H&S compliance, industrial hygiene, and company policies.
  • Valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
  • Emotional intelligence and collaborative mindset to engage with project teams, subcontractors, and clients.
  • Must be fit for duty for multiple sites and activities including, but not limited to, working outdoors in all environments, lifting up to 50 pounds, standing, kneeling, walking, for long periods of time, passing a drug and alcohol test, and wearing respirators such as N95, half/full face, and supplied air.

Nice To Haves

  • Professional registrations and certifications (CHMM, CSP, CIH, ASP, CHST, etc.) are preferred.
  • Direct experience providing H&S support for large-scale environmental projects.
  • Familiarity with contaminated site management, characterization, and remediation field activities, and willingness to occasionally support delivery of field activities.
  • Be self-directed and able to work productively and prioritize multiple tasks, initiatives, and projects.
  • Applies emotional intelligence to recognize, communicate, and resolve project-related concerns, fostering an open and supportive work environment.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to develop and leverage relationships to seek continuous improvement opportunities, promote our safety culture, and facilitate H&S in planning and execution of projects.
  • Strong communication skills including verbal and written, communicating internally and externally.

Responsibilities

  • Act as a key influencer to continuously improve H&S culture and be consistently relied upon by project team members as a valued partner to safely deliver client services.
  • Perform risk assessments and project planning, including developing, reviewing, monitoring, and improving Site-Specific Health and Safety Plans (HASP), Job Hazard Analyses (JHA), and/or other task specific safety documents.
  • Be highly competent using H&S software, equipment, and other technical tools associated with practice area and can teach others how to use those tools.
  • Be competent in H&S-related programs, safe work approaches, and can detect potentially unsafe work practices and implement countermeasures. Ability to coach, train, and mentor others.
  • Work with project teams to ensure they have the health & safety tools, training, and knowledge necessary to perform their day-to-day job functions.
  • Oversee conformance with client-specific H&S programs. Partner with client teams as part of project planning and delivery.
  • Support and promote initial documentation of positive safety observations, incidents, injuries, and near misses in a reporting tool. Work with project teams to resolve H&S concerns.
  • Conduct site audits and track corrective actions to closure.
  • Deliver H&S training (monthly, on-boarding, client specific).
