About The Position

Under the supervision of the Safety Director, assists with the development and implementation of Company safety, health, and training programs. Conducts incident investigations, consults with field teams, and helps resolves hazardous or potentially hazardous situations. Conducts safety orientations and training as needed.

Requirements

  • Four-year occupational safety/health degree or equivalent combination of training and certifications.
  • Three to Five years’ experience in construction safety with knowledge of general industry safety practices.
  • Awareness and understanding of applicable federal, state, and local regulations for the construction industry.
  • Ability to recognize hazards and recommend corrective action
  • Good interpersonal skills
  • Strong verbal and written communications skills especially ability to speak in front of groups and conduct training.
  • Mastery of Microsoft Office products.
  • Excellent computer literacy.
  • Valid passenger driver’s license and clear driving record.
  • Working a minimum of 40 hours/week
  • Sitting 6 to 8 hours/day
  • Lifting weights of 0 to 30 lbs. from floor to above shoulders
  • Repetitive use of hands for writing, typing, data entry, and filing
  • Vision adequate for daily and consistent computer use and reading
  • Hearing adequate for phone use
  • Standing, climbing, kneeling, reaching, bending, twisting, and walking as needed to perform site surveys to collect data for project design
  • Balance adequate for climbing ladders, scaffolds, and lifts
  • Environmental factors include working in temperature extremes of 0 F to 100 F up to 8 hours inside or outside; atmospheric exposure to dust, gases, fumes, odors; and poor ventilation in confined spaces
  • Special hazards include exposure to mechanical, electrical, chemical, and explosive hazards
  • Personal protective equipment includes use of hard hat, safety glasses, steel-toed shoes, gloves, and hearing protection
  • Ability to visit construction jobsites including walking on uneven terrain, climbing, stooping, squatting and exposure to temperature extremes and the “elements”.

Responsibilities

  • Complies and ensures compliance with all Tri-M safety, substance abuse prevention, and employment policies and procedures.
  • Complies and ensures compliance with all Tri-M’s standards of conduct and appearance to reflect positively on the Company.
  • Ensures compliance with company safety policies and procedures by conducting job site safety inspection as needed and addressing violations as they occur.
  • Identifies documents and recommends resolution of hazardous/potentially hazardous conditions. Follows through to ensure conditions have been corrected.
  • Coordinates and delivers safety orientation and onboarding for new employees.
  • Develops, coordinates, and implements Company fire prevention and protection program including training in the use of fire extinguishers and evacuation drills.
  • Coordinates and implements Company “Toolbox Talks” safety program.
  • Coordinates and implements safety training to ensure regulatory compliance.
  • Conducts accident investigations and analyzes incidents to determine root causes and recommend preventive corrections, communicates information to the Tri-M Team as needed.
  • Coordinates workers compensation program including filing claims, establishing provider protocols, maintaining provider lists, conducting case management, and serving as liaison to insurance carrier.
  • Compiles data and completes reports for applicable safety and training programs including corporate safety reports, OSHA logs and contractor safety data reports. Ensures completion of S.T.E.P. application.
  • Maintains compliance documentation and health records
  • Recommends, establishes, and implements annual safety program goals based on monitoring of Company safety statistics, incidents, and near misses.
  • Recommends revisions to corporate safety policies and procedures as needed to ensure regulatory compliance and reinforce proactive approach to safety.
  • Coordinates Company substance abuse prevention program and ensures employee compliance.
  • Develops required information and presentation materials for the monthly Safety Committee Meeting.
  • Coordinates company confined space entry program including monitoring use of entry permits, recommending applicable changes, and ensuring air monitoring equipment is functional and in compliance.
  • Coordinates and implements the inspection of electrical protective equipment and electrical instruments.
  • Participates in the annual review of Company safety program and recommends changes.
  • Reviews safety related journals, catalogues, etc., to keep abreast of changes and special issues in the field of safety.
  • Serves as resource to employees for safety related questions.
  • Performs special projects assigned by the Safety Director
  • Represents Tri-M at owner and general contractor safety meetings.
