This individual is responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing all safety programs across fiber construction and field operations. This role ensures compliance with OSHA regulations, reduces workplace incidents, and promotes a strong safety culture among internal crews and subcontractors working in high-risk construction environments.

Requirements

  • OSHA Certification: Certified Safety and Health Manager (CSHM)
  • OSHA 500 and OSHA 501 Outreach Trainer certifications preferred, with authorization to deliver both Construction and General Industry OSHA 10/30 training programs
  • 3–7+ years of experience in construction, telecommunications, utilities, or similar high-risk environments
  • Strong knowledge of OSHA standards and construction safety practices
  • Experience conducting site inspections and incident investigations
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to job sites regularly
  • Experience in fiber optic, telecom, or utility construction environments
  • First Aid/CPR certification preferred
  • Experience managing workers’ compensation coordination processes

Responsibilities

  • Ensure compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local safety regulations, including OSHA standards
  • Conduct regular job site inspections across aerial and underground fiber construction projects
  • Identify hazards and enforce corrective actions, including stop-work authority when necessary
  • Maintain all required safety documentation, logs, and compliance records
  • Lead investigations of workplace incidents, near-misses, and property damage
  • Complete detailed incident reports, including root cause analysis and corrective action plans
  • Coordinate with HR, operations, and insurance carriers regarding workplace injuries and workers’ compensation claims
  • Track incident trends and implement preventive strategies
  • Work closely with our Learning & Development Manager to develop and deliver safety training programs
  • Train employees on OSHA requirements, including excavation safety, fall protection, traffic control, and equipment operation
  • Ensure all employees maintain required safety certifications and training compliance
  • Travel to all markets as needed
  • Perform field audits of fiber construction sites, including aerial, underground, and splicing operations
  • Verify proper use of PPE (personal protective equipment)
  • Evaluate job hazard analyses (JHAs) and safe work practices prior to project execution
  • Support utility locating compliance and safe digging practices (811 coordination)
  • Develop and update company-wide safety policies and procedures
  • Implement safety programs for high-risk activities (trenching, aerial lifts, confined spaces)
  • Maintain emergency response plans and risk mitigation strategies
  • Collaborate with leadership to improve overall safety culture
