About The Position

Hartmann Canada Inc, in Brantford, Ontario is a division of Hartmann North America. We are the world leader of moulded fibre egg cartons. The demand for moulded fibre and environmentally sustainable products is rapidly increasing. Hartmann has committed and invested in this area to meet the growing demand of our products. We require the talent of a Health & Safety Coordinator to join our team. The Health and Safety Coordinator is responsible for planning, developing, implementing, and directing health and safety programs and activities throughout the operation to evaluate, prevent, control, or correct unsafe working condition and hazards. This position reports directly to the Plant Manager, with an indirect reporting to the Director of Manufacturing.

Requirements

  • 3-5 years of related experience within the manufacturing sector, preferably within a unionized work environment;
  • Post-secondary education in health and safety or related discipline;
  • Experience with the Ministry of Labour, as well as WSIB reporting and claims management;
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills with the ability to impact and influence a passion for safety;
  • Effective problem solving and decision making skills with strong organizational ability;
  • Strong sense of urgency who works well under pressure and reacts to stressful situations with professionalism.

Responsibilities

  • Lead health and safety initiatives that promote a positive safety culture where people have the right knowledge and the right attitude.
  • Manage workplace accident and incident program(s) and associated corrective and preventive action(s);
  • Disability management –WSIB claims; develop & monitor return to work plans & related accommodation;
  • Program Management - develop, implement and facilitate training programs related to the development of new and revised safety initiatives;
  • Training – develop, implement, facilitate and/or coordinate training programs related to H&S, including New Hire Orientation, Mobile Equipment, WHMIS, CSE, Respirator Fit, Working at Heights, Lock Out, Emergency Evacuations, Work Refusals, etc.;
  • Track safety elements and actions, and facilitate meetings to review and update Corrective and Preventative Action logs with operations and maintenance leaders
  • Monitor, coordinate, implement and administer health and safety programs/policies related to current and future legislation and best practices to satisfy due diligence and compliance requirements;
  • Create annual safety calendar, identifying training requirements, safety topics and related safety audits;
  • Perform hazard/risk assessments and make recommendations to reduce hazard exposure.
  • Perform monthly KPI management related to accident trending analysis;
  • Participate in and coordinate safety assessments, audits, inspections and hygiene monitoring
  • Continue and lead the execution and maintenance of Safety Management Software system for incident management and hazard recognitions.
