About The Position

The Health & Safety Compliance Manager leads and champions the resort’s health, safety, security, and emergency preparedness programs, fostering a culture of safety, accountability, and continuous improvement. Working collaboratively with leaders, associates, external agencies, and regulatory bodies, this role ensures compliance with workplace safety legislation, industry standards, and company policies while promoting the well-being of guests, associates, and resort assets. The successful candidate is a highly collaborative and influential leader with exceptional emotional intelligence, strong facilitation and presentation skills, and the ability to engage, educate, and inspire stakeholders through training, coaching, incident management, and emergency preparedness initiatives.

  • Knowledge of basic Fire, Life & Safety standards/processes
  • Diploma or certificate in Hotel/ Health & Safety/ Security Management or the equivalent is an asset
  • Must possess or be able to obtain the Certificate of Recognition (COR)
  • Must be able to sit at a desk for up to 8 hours per day
  • Requires manual dexterity to use and operate all necessary equipment
  • Must be able to stand and exert well-paced mobility for up to 8 hours in length when required.
  • Ability to provide a satisfactory criminal record check

Responsibilities

  • Maintain accurate security and operational records, including daily activity logs, CCTV monitoring records, incident documentation, property loss reports, and emergency response records.
  • Coordinate and oversee administrative aspects of safety and security programs, including CCTV monitoring, access control, key control systems, and emergency preparedness programs.
  • Manage Lost & Found operations, ensuring accurate tracking, secure storage, documentation, and return of recovered items.
  • Create, implement, and regularly update Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to support standardized workflows and continuous process improvement.
  • Compile and distribute departmental reports, correspondence, meeting minutes, and other operational documentation.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the Resort Manager.
  • Coordinate and oversee hotel safety programs, including CPR, First Aid, chemical SDS compliance, emergency preparedness, fire safety, and evacuation procedures.
  • Coordinate first aid training, drills, and OFA scheduling while ensuring first aid supplies, kits, and storage areas remain fully stocked, compliant, and emergency-ready.
  • Maintain readiness of emergency communication devices by charging and managing phones designated for Fire Department use.
  • Conduct regular audits of fire extinguishers, sharps disposal containers, and other life-safety equipment to ensure regulatory compliance and operational readiness.
  • Update and maintain emergency response plans, safety policies, communicable disease plans, and related documentation.
  • Coordinate emergency preparedness initiatives, including fire and emergency response training, drills, evacuations, and Emergency Services communication audits.
  • Co-chair Occupational Health & Safety Committee meetings with People & Culture; oversees the follow-up items that derive from these meetings.
  • Support and monitor compliance with Occupational Health & Safety programs, WorkSafeBC regulations, COR certification requirements, and safe work procedures.
  • Champion health and safety by educating associates, enforcing policies and procedures, addressing unsafe conditions, and ensuring timely reporting of hazards, injuries, and incidents.
  • Ensure associates receive required health and safety training during orientation and maintain compliance with all applicable workplace safety standards.
  • Patrol hotel property and respond to safety, security, operational, and emergency incidents.
  • Provide first aid and coordinate emergency response activities.
  • Investigate, document, and follow up on incidents, policy violations, security concerns, and key discrepancies.
  • Conduct emergency response drills and support emergency preparedness initiatives.
  • Deliver training on security systems, access control, key management, and emergency procedures.
  • Audit security systems, locks, keys, and emergency equipment to ensure compliance and readiness.
  • Support staff accommodation, key control, access management, and asset protection programs.
  • Coordinate the maintenance of security technology and emergency communication systems.
  • Liaise with law enforcement, emergency services, and external partners.
