About The Position

This role provides administrative support to the HSE Department in all areas including workplace safety, supporting environmental and health initiatives, contractor compliance, maintaining records, and audit support. The student will assist in carrying out policies and procedures in all areas of HSE.

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled in 3rd or 4th year of University working towards a degree program or equivalent in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Science, Industrial Hygiene, Ergonomics or related field.
  • Experience in a manufacturing or industrial setting preferred.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook)
  • Exceptional organizational and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a cross-functional team.
  • Must have the ability to meet deadlines and prioritize a heavy workload.
  • Excellent command of the English Language both written and verbal.
  • Basic understanding of OHSA and EPA regulations.

Responsibilities

  • All administrative functions related to the HSE department such as handling inspections, creating presentations, requisitions, scheduling, taking minutes, attending meetings as required.
  • Learn and deliver trainings and orientation to new hires, schedule hearing tests and managing contractor safety.
  • Help update and develop safety procedures, policies and risk assessments.
  • Assist with managing Pre-Start Health & Safety Reports.
  • Involvement and support in all audits for department including Magna standards, Mafact Standards and ISO 14001/ISO 45001 Audits.
  • Support with Safety Data Sheet management and WHMIS regulations.
  • Involvement in accident/near miss/spill investigation and maintenance of program.
  • Updating HSELinx with bills, incidents and other required information.
  • Floor walks and follow ups with employees and management on suggestions and improvements.
  • Assist with training booking, presentations, and special projects as needed.
  • Regular inspections of first aid room, spill kits, and vending machines.
  • Creates Safety Quiz and distributes to employees monthly.
  • Ensure compliance with OHSA and Environmental Protection Act.
  • Assist in 5S initiatives, housekeeping of the plant, and program development.
  • Performs all job functions in a safe and healthful manner, abiding by all Health, Safety and Environmental rules and regulations.
  • Coordinate and administrate hearing tests and pre- placement medical examinations as required.
