About The Position

Nordic PCL Construction, Inc., part of the PCL Family of Companies (PCL), is seeking a Health, Safety, and Environment Student Intern for its Hawaii district in Honolulu, Hawaii. This internship offers the opportunity to gain hands-on experience on real construction projects, develop in-demand skills through mentorship and PCL’s College of Construction, and build connections through inclusive student and networking events. PCL invests in its people and projects, providing competitive weekly pay and clear career pathways to full-time roles. The internship is for three to four months, starting in May 2027, within the US Buildings sector.

Requirements

  • Working toward Bachelor’s degree or diploma in Occupational Health and Safety or a related area of study.
  • A desire to pursue a career as a HSE professional.
  • 18 years of age or older and possesses a valid Driver's License.
  • Knowledge of applicable OH&S, environmental legislation and HSE processes.
  • Effective verbal and written communication and presentation skills.
  • Ability to learn construction processes and terminology.
  • A strong aptitude for adopting new technology.
  • Must be able to navigate through a construction site on a daily basis and climb ladders and stairs.
  • Must be able to work around and near heavy equipment, cranes, and other construction equipment.
  • Employment with PCL is contingent upon passing a background check, a physical, and a substance abuse test each conducted by a third party.

Responsibilities

  • Gathers/reviews/distributes safety-related statistical information.
  • Monitors site-specific programs/requirements/compliance.
  • Recognizes and follows PCL and local legislative requirements.
  • Anticipates questions based on experience, knowledge, and understanding of client needs.
  • Conceptually visualizes a completed project or project component (e.g., generator installation process).
  • Recognizes behaviors, conditions, and activities that can adversely affect health.
  • Interprets simple work sequences.
  • Liaises effectively with project and field management.
  • Applies basic knowledge of behavioral concepts.
  • Interprets, communicates, and reinforces project safety standards to workforce.
  • Other duties as required.
