About The Position

In the Department of Health, this role is responsible for the administration and/or acquisition of health research projects, ensuring adherence to grant and contractual agreements. The position involves working under the overall direction of a principal investigator or senior Department of Health administrator, with significant autonomy and independent judgment. Work is reviewed upon completion through conferences and written reports. The role also involves organizing and supervising a professional, technical, and clerical subordinate staff.

Requirements

  • Thorough knowledge of the principles, practices, and techniques of research design and administration as it applies to health or related research projects.
  • Ability to apply such knowledge to the planning and administration of health research projects.
  • Ability to evaluate the efficiency and effectiveness of research designs.
  • Ability to collect, review, and evaluate research data.
  • Ability to formulate and implement standards, policies, procedures, and protocols for health research projects.
  • Working knowledge of the availability of research funds and their sources.
  • Ability to develop and implement a health research budget and monitor budgetary performance.
  • Ability to speak in public to disseminate information to the research community and the public at large.
  • Ability to direct and supervise subordinate professional, technical, and clerical staff engaged in health research projects.
  • Ability to select, supervise, and work with outside consultants.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with superiors, associates, subordinates, state, federal and local officials, and the general public.
  • Ability to prepare written reports of health research project activities, including technical and statistical sections.
  • Ability to prepare research grant applications.
  • Possession of a doctoral degree in public health, epidemiology, statistics, social science research or a science specifically related to the relevant area of research.
  • Employment in a highly responsible position involving participation in the overall administration of health research projects.
  • Registration in pharmacy in Rhode Island and maintenance of such registration as a condition of employment.

  • Knowledge of drug utilization reviews.
  • Experience with committees such as Pharmacy & Therapeutics Committee, Drug Utilization Review and Medical Care Advisory Committee.

Responsibilities

  • Participation with federal agencies and national voluntary agencies in activities and publications related to the area of research.
  • Preparation of written reports of health research project activities, including technical and statistical sections.
  • Performing related work as required.
