About The Position

Through partnership with Community Health Project Los Angeles, the Los Angeles County (County) Department of Health Services (DHS) Office of Overdose Prevention and Response Overdose Education and Naloxone Distribution (OEND) program increases access to naloxone across the County. The aim of the OEND program is to reduce overdose mortality rate by providing training and naloxone to people who use County services and to those who are likely to be present at the scene of an overdose. OEND also provides field-based technical assistance with multiple partner agencies to support the expansion of service provision across LA County. The Health Promotion Supervisor position supports all these efforts while also supervising individuals providing direct service provision to at-risk populations at the Skid Row Care Campus and Maple Health Hub. The Skid Row Care Campus and Maple Health Hub provide services to Skid Row residents including: hygiene care, case management, health care, social services and more. The Health Promotion Senior Team Lead will be responsible for supervising Community Health Promoters at the Skid Row Care Campus and Maple Health Hubs during daily operations, communicating with and maintaining relationships with on-campus providers and reporting programmatic updates to the OEND Program Director.

Requirements

  • Prior experience in a supervisory role required.
  • At least 2 years of full-time experience providing direct services to or working with CHPLA communities of focus people experiencing homelessness, people coming out of incarceration, people who use drugs, people who engage in sex work.
  • A valid California driver’s license, proof of vehicle insurance, and reliable transportation
  • Background check clearance required.
  • Ability to maintain confidential information.
  • Ability to problem solve and work independently with leadership responsibilities in project management, cross agency collaboration, and community mobilization.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both written and verbal, with program leadership, engendering a communication style that builds trust, is reliable and timely.
  • Knowledge of PC hardware and software (i.e. Microsoft Excel, Word, Internet, databases)
  • Ability to navigate a high stress, high demand work environment.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to interpret situations, characteristics, behavior, etc. and respond appropriately.
  • Detail oriented, organized, and possessing time management skills.
  • Existing relationships and trust within communities of focus.

Nice To Haves

  • Applicants with harm reduction background are preferred
  • Lived experience in one or more of the communities of focus: people experiencing homelessness, people coming out of incarceration, people who use drugs, people who engage in sex work.
  • Member of the Skid Row community, close affiliation, or shared life experience with the Skid Row community being served.
  • Ability to work appropriately and effectively within a variety of communities with varying populations.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise a team of community health promoters and daily operations at Skid Row Care Campus and Maple Health Hub distribution sites
  • Lead beginning and end of shift team huddles to review safety protocols, debrief events, and provide education
  • Provide technical assistance on participant engagement, linkage and harm reduction principles
  • Communicate with team leads and CHPs to ensure each CHP is at their assigned location at the appropriate times each day
  • Respond to participant and staff incidents and complete corresponding documentation, conduct necessary debriefs and implement any necessary programmatic
  • Assess community health promoter engagement, assessment and linkage skills
  • Review data submission is completed for each site according to submission guidelines
  • Collaborate with campus partners to support leadership meetings and provide updates, guidance on best practices and policies, and continuing education to the health promoter team
  • Monitor staff performance, staff needs, programmatic needs, and trends in the witnessed or reported among program participants
  • Act as a liaison between Community Health Promoters and OEND Program Director
  • Other duties as assigned by Executive Director, OEND Program Director, and Community Outreach Manager
