About The Position

The Health Promotion Coordinator (HPC) works as part of the Population and Public Health team to improve the health of all people and reduce inequities between populations groups by addressing determinants of health and promoting equitable health outcomes using a population health approach. The HPC works as a member of the Population and Public Health team and with colleagues in other programs, departments, sectors and organizations to promote health and wellbeing within the province. Under the direction of the Director of Population Health Programs, the HPC will be responsible for the development, implementation, facilitation, consultation education, evaluation and research of health promotion initiatives throughout the province. The HPC uses health promotion strategies to design and deliver population health improvements in areas such as injury prevention, nutrition promotion, healthy built environment, physical activity, chronic disease prevention, reproductive health, healthy sexuality and substance use prevention. The HPC respectfully engages and collaborates with diverse communities and partners to close health gaps and improve population health. The HPC uses a population health approach that is rooted in an understanding of the broad determinants of health, health equity, community development, and harm reduction. The HPC supports evidence-informed practice and policy with their knowledge of public health sciences and skills in facilitation, problem solving, and communication.

Requirements

  • Minimum of four years’ experience in a related field is required.
  • Experience is defined as related to public health/ health promotion and the design and delivery of related programs/strategies in areas such as injury prevention, nutrition promotion, healthy built environment, physical activity, chronic disease prevention, reproductive health, healthy sexuality and substance use prevention.
  • Undergraduate degree in health or related discipline from a recognized post-secondary educational institution is required.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and skill in program planning and project management.
  • Demonstrated ability to research, critically analyse and synthesize current literature and best practice to support the development of health promotion strategies and action plans.
  • Excellent leadership, organizational, decision-making, problem-solving and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated sound understanding of the principles of population health, public health and health promotion, prevention and protection.
  • Demonstrated ability to express ideas and concepts effectively both orally and in writing to a variety of audiences, including formal presentation and the development and delivery of education and training, composing reports, conducting public consultation and developing resource material.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and facilitate processes and partnerships for program/strategy development and delivery, including group facilitation.
  • Demonstrated ability to negotiate mutually beneficial agreements and to manage change through decision-making, problem-solving, consensus building and dialogue.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with staff, peers, supervisor, multi-sectoral partners and the public.
  • Ability to work independently and with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to work effectively as a team member and manage multiple concurrent tasks.
  • Excellent English oral and written communication skills.
  • Proficient in computer software (Word, Power Point, Excel, Outlook).
  • Acceptable Child Abuse Registry check and Criminal Record check.
  • Subject to immunizations and tuberculin testing as per Winnipeg Regional Health Authority Employer Policy.
  • A current satisfactory Criminal Records Check (including Vulnerable Sector Search), Child Abuse Registry Check and Adult Abuse Registry Check as conditions of employment.
