About The Position

The Radiological Protection division invites you to consider applying for our Health Physics Technician opening. In this role, you will provide field and laboratory support for the Radiological Protection Program. You will measure, assess, and document radiological conditions in the workplace. May occasionally calibrate radiation survey instruments. Requirements

  • Some knowledge of radiation monitoring instruments and equipment and ability to interpret results is desirable.
  • There should be demonstrated interest in science which should include course work in science, engineering and/or mathematics
  • May require walking and carrying survey instruments up to 20-lbs for extended period of time
  • Will be required to pass the DOE CORE Test which includes general knowledge of math, science as well as nuclear science fundamentals within two weeks of hire
  • Qualification period for a HPT varies from six months to eighteen months. At the end of the qualification period an oral board examination is administered. Failure of the oral board examination is evaluated on a case by case basis and could result in additional tests up to termination of employment
  • Interpersonal and communication skills required to interact effectively and tactfully with internal customers and to successfully develop effective working relationships
  • Ability to model Argonne’s core values of impact, safety, respect, integrity, and teamwork
  • III Level: Associates and and 3+ years of experience or equivalent.
  • SR Level: Associates and 5+ years of experience or equivalent.
