About The Position

This role will support efforts in the greater Miami and Fort Lauderdale, FL area. The Health Physicist will work under the direction of qualified medical physicists to support hospitals, imaging centers, and outpatient facilities by performing diagnostic imaging equipment performance evaluations and supporting radiation protection programs to ensure compliance with federal and Florida state regulations, accreditation standards (ACR, IAC, TJC), and best practices in radiation safety. This role includes performing acceptance testing and annual surveys on x-ray and fluoroscopic equipment, supporting shielding evaluations, assisting with occupational dosimetry programs, and helping clients maintain compliance with the Florida Department of Health Bureau of Radiation Control. The Health Physicist will work closely with senior medical physicists, Radiation Safety Officers (RSOs), and client operational staff. This position is based in the Miami / Fort Lauderdale area and is an exempt role.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in physics, medical physics, health physics, radiologic science, biomedical engineering, or a related field; equivalent technical training and field experience may be considered.
  • Working knowledge of diagnostic x-ray and fluoroscopic equipment performance testing and image quality evaluation.
  • Familiarity with NRC and Florida state regulations, NUREG guidance, and applicable ANSI, NCRP, AAPM, and ACR standards.
  • Willingness and ability to pursue continuing education and progression toward CHP, ABSM certification or related credentials, with mentorship from senior medical physicists.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills; ability to convey technical concepts to a variety of audiences.
  • Demonstrated initiative, professionalism, and organizational ability in managing projects and meeting deadlines.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to adapt solutions to client-specific challenges.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel between client sites throughout South Florida.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience as a medical physicist assistant, radiologic technologist, or QC technologist in a diagnostic imaging or radiation oncology environment preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Perform performance evaluations, acceptance testing, and annual surveys on diagnostic x-ray equipment, including radiographic, fluoroscopic (ex. c-arm), and dental units under the supervision of a qualified medical physicist.
  • Assist in audits and inspections of radiation safety programs to ensure compliance with NRC, Florida Department of Health (Bureau of Radiation Control), and institutional regulations.
  • Support the development, implementation, and review of Radiation Protection Programs and related procedures for medical clients.
  • Assist with monitoring, analyzing, and interpreting occupational radiation dosimetry data; help prepare consultation reports and corrective action recommendations for exposures exceeding ALARA thresholds.
  • Support incident response activities involving potential or actual radiological exposure, contamination, or loss of radioactive material.
  • Assist with shielding evaluations and design reviews for diagnostic imaging facilities, including new construction and renovation projects.
  • Perform area surveys, contamination checks, and exposure assessments for controlled and unrestricted areas.
  • Support clients and regulatory bodies on registration of radiation-producing devices and routine compliance documentation.
  • Provide on-site technical support during inspections by federal or state regulators and assist clients in preparing for and responding to audits.
  • Support the delivery of training and educational sessions on radiation safety, ALARA principles, emergency response, and regulatory compliance to radiation workers and ancillary staff.
  • Maintain records, prepare draft reports, and assist in generating documentation required by regulatory authorities and accrediting bodies (ACR, IAC, TJC, FL DOH).
  • Calibrate, maintain, and inventory test equipment, ensuring instruments are within calibration and ready for field deployment.
  • Perform additional duties, as needed.
