About The Position

This position is for a Health & Physical Education Teacher for the 2026-2027 School Year. The teacher will aid each student in developing competence in basic learning skills, progressing based on achievement, qualifying for further education and/or employment, developing ethical standards of behavior, participating in society as a responsible family member and citizen, developing a positive and realistic concept of self and others, enhancing the beauty of the environment and responding to aesthetic experiences, and practicing sound habits of safe living and personal health. The role involves maintaining professional self-behavior, providing care and supervision of students, creating an environment conducive to learning, observing and evaluating student performance, utilizing effective classroom management and instructional techniques, implementing technology, responding to parent inquiries, and complying with all school laws and regulations.

Requirements

  • Must possess good moral character.
  • Must possess a Bachelor’s Degree.
  • Must possess or be eligible for a Virginia Department of Education Teaching License with an endorsement in the assigned area.
  • Knowledge of and be sensitive to the needs of a diverse student population.
  • Assume responsibility for continued personal and professional growth in the teaching field or in the field of teaching, as well as the improvement of the profession.
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others.
  • Knowledge of and interaction with community and parents.
  • Knowledge of and compliance with policies, regulations, and guidelines in meeting assigned duties.
  • Knowledge and use of curriculum content (subject matter and skills) associated with the instructional assignment.
  • Knowledge and use of instructional facilities, equipment, and materials.
  • Possession of interpersonal skills to build effective, respectful professional relationships with peers, specialists, students, and the school community.

Responsibilities

  • Maintains professional self-behavior in such a manner that the profession, school district, and school are positively represented.
  • Provides care and supervision of students.
  • Utilizes class space to create an environment conducive to learning.
  • Observes and evaluates student’s performance and development; maintain accurate and complete records.
  • Provides effective supervision of volunteers and paraprofessionals when applicable.

  • Implements relevant technology to support and differentiate instruction.

  • Complies with all school laws, State Board of Education regulations, and all rules and regulations made by the School Board and Superintendent.
  • Attends all meetings called or approved by the Superintendent, Principal or Assistant Principal.
  • Serve as a role model.
  • Performs other duties as may be assigned by the Building Principal.
