About The Position

The Health Insurance Verification Specialist supports the revenue cycle by completing accurate insurance benefit verification, financial clearance, and authorization workflows. This role helps ensure that client coverage, patient responsibility, authorization status, and reimbursement-related documentation are confirmed and maintained in a timely and organized manner.

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • 1-3 years of experience with insurance verification in a medical or healthcare setting.
  • 1-3 years of experience obtaining authorizations and predeterminations from various payors in a medical or healthcare setting.
  • Experience using an electronic medical record (EMR) system.
  • Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English.
  • Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint.

Responsibilities

  • Verify client insurance benefits, coverage levels, eligibility, and patient out-of-pocket responsibilities.
  • Obtain initial authorizations for services and track authorizations for ongoing care.
  • Complete ongoing monthly benefit and eligibility checks for current clients.
  • Confirm First Children Services in-network or out-of-network status with each client's insurance plan.
  • Submit appeals to insurance plans when necessary.
  • Create and maintain clear documentation for authorization approvals, payer communications, and other reimbursement-related activity.
  • Communicate effectively with internal departments, clients, and external contacts.
  • Assist with answering phones and receiving or sending faxes as needed.
  • Attend meetings as required and participate in workflow improvement efforts.
  • Maintain cooperative, professional relationships with colleagues and external partners.
  • Protect confidential and sensitive information in accordance with company policies and procedures.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
