About The Position

The mission of the Inspections Department is to serve developers and contractors in meeting their goals and to verify code and ordinance compliance to protect the public. The Inspections Department issues building and related permits and inspects both new construction and remodels. Requirements

  • A Bachelor’s degree, with at least 30 semester hours in science
  • Two years of relevant experience
  • Must have an appropriate Texas driver’s license
  • Must have, or be able to obtain within a specified timeframe, Sanitarian and Code Enforcement Officer licenses
  • A résumé must be submitted with application

Responsibilities

  • Inspecting food establishments, temporary food event vendors, commercial/residential childcare facilities and nursing homes to ensure compliance with city, state and federal codes and regulations
  • Responding to questions and complaints from the public and City staff
  • Recommending ordinance revisions
  • Preparing reports
  • Maintaining records
  • Negotiating solutions for compliance
  • Issuing citations
  • Preparing cases and testifying in court
