About The Position

This position serves as a Health Inspector and Code Compliance Technician. The role involves conducting routine health inspections of commercial food establishments and mobile food sales, enforcing ordinances, performing re-inspections, and providing educational outreach. Responsibilities include inspecting food establishments for festivals and special events, educating the public and business owners on health regulations and city ordinances, and conducting site inspections during construction to ensure compliance with health codes. The Code Compliance Technician aspect involves scheduling and conducting inspections to ensure compliance with City Codes and Ordinances, documenting discrepancies, writing reports, communicating inspection results, and conducting follow-up inspections. This role also coordinates activities related to property maintenance, residential, commercial, signage, and health code enforcement. The position requires investigating reported code violations, issuing violation letters and citations, documenting violations, and communicating status updates to citizens. Additionally, the role may involve attending court to provide testimony and locating, removing, and disposing of illegal signs, issuing citations for such violations. Maintaining and updating data, records, and files, conducting basic research, collecting data, and preparing activity logs and reports are also key functions. The position requires coordination with other departments and organizations for special events and projects, reviewing and approving requests for special events, and working effectively in a team environment. Dependability, reliability, and good attendance are essential. The employee may be subject to 24-hour recall for overtime, including during emergency situations, and may be required to remain at work to provide essential services during emergencies or evacuations, potentially performing duties different from the normal scope of the position.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma, GED or equivalent
  • Two (2) years of related experience required in assigned area of responsibility
  • Valid Texas Driver's License
  • Certified Food Manager
  • Registered Code Enforcement Certification
  • Should meet the FDA Voluntary National Retail Food Program Standards basic curriculum and field training elements

Responsibilities
