About The Position

The Health Information Technician (HIM Tech) is responsible for maintaining the accuracy and integrity of patient medical records, both electronic and paper. This role involves managing patient admissions and discharges in the Carelogic (CL) system, ensuring accuracy of bed holds, and coordinating the transfer, scanning, and destruction of paper records in compliance with state and federal laws. The HIM Tech analyzes patient data for quality, accuracy, accessibility, privacy, and security. They also manage medical record deficiencies, conduct audits, answer facility calls, and assist with the Peer Review process. Additionally, this role involves training new employees on Carelogic and assisting with help desk tickets and other assigned duties.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Must be able to perform tasks which require hand/eye coordination.
  • Must be able to hear normal sounds with some background noises.
  • Must be able to sit for prolonged periods of times up to 3 hours.

Nice To Haves

  • Prefer Register Health Information Technician (RHIT)
  • Prefer one to two years’ experience in the Health Information Management Department performing duties of Health Information Technician or Manager.

Responsibilities

  • Maintaining the accuracy for admitting and discharging patients from the electronic medical record Carelogic (CL).
  • Maintaining the accuracy of bed holds that occur during a patient stay which effect the patient accounts in CL.
  • Supplying requested information to the appropriate staff members and within the continuum facilities.
  • Coordinating the transfer of paper medical records from one location to another.
  • Coordinating and maintaining the scanning and destruction of paper medical records by state and federal laws; via Professional Imaging Solutions or department.
  • Analyzing patient data by ensuring its quality, accuracy, accessibility, and privacy and security in both paper and electronic systems.
  • Analyzing requests for medical information, evaluating legality of releases, abstracting pertinent portions of medical records, copying, mailing and/or releasing in accordance with departmental policies to safeguard patient confidentiality.
  • Managing the notification of all staff members regarding deficiencies in the medical record.
  • Maintaining the completion of deficiencies, by the staff, by the approved deficiency date.
  • Managing audits of the medical records, electronic or paper, for QAPI or other requested audits from Director or HIM Manager.
  • Answering incoming calls for the facility in a professional manner.
  • Following departmental procedures for archiving inactive paper records; pulling charts, preparing charts for CL.
  • Scanning charts into CL in accordance with departmental policies.
  • Assisting the entire continuum with medical records, privacy, and request for records.
  • Assisting in managing the Peer Review process for the Medical Staff.
  • Training new employees, upon hire, for the Technology section and assisting with other pertinent training for staff with Carelogic.
  • Assisting the Technical Services department with help desk tickets regarding Carelogic, and other assigned duties.
  • Assisting other Health Information Technicians with special duties.
  • Assisting the Health Information Manager and/or Director of Health Information Management Director with assigned special duties.
  • Performing miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
