About The Position
The Health Information Technician is responsible for the recovery, scanning, and electronic documentation of medical records from various provider offices and facilities. This role involves accurately transferring data into the EMR system, ensuring compliance with HIPAA regulations, and processing release of information requests. The position is full-time and contributes to the organization's mission of providing clinical excellence and comprehensive, patient-centered healthcare to the community.
Requirements
- Minimum of a high school diploma or GED required.
- One year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Nice To Haves
- Understanding of compliance to HIPAA rules and regulations.
Responsibilities
- Convert visual and textual records and documents into electronic images using a scanner.
- Provide efficient and timely scanning of documents containing patient health information to designated work folders for EMR import.
- Accurately import scanned patient health information into the EMR system, ensuring correct document type and summary information.
- Preload clinical information from paper charts to the EMR system.
- Process all release of information for medical records, verifying appropriate signatures.
- Assess release of information charges appropriately based on request type.
- Process requests from other medical providers immediately.
- Ensure physicians receive returned medical tests and other pertinent medical information daily.
- Process incoming and outgoing mail daily, including date stamping and distribution.
- Attend required in-service and departmental meetings.
