About The Position

This is an expert level position that leads and performs all job duties in the Health Information Management Department. A qualified candidate is expected to provide a high level of service for the department, support, and train all the Health Information Management job functions. Approves and coordinates vacation schedules, edits and approves timesheets. Provides answers to staff regarding release-of-information, and HIPAA procedures. Conducts ongoing audits to assure quality standards are met. Proficient in all the Epic work queues. The Lead applicant is also required to maintain the privacy and confidentiality of protected health information and adhere to the policies that govern the Health Information Management department. A successful applicant actively seeks to promote and help maintain a professional, team-oriented, service-conscious environment, which contributes to the goals of the department and reflects on the values of the system.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma/G.E.D. Required
  • Experience with the electronic health record (EHR), health information systems and applications required.
  • Proficient in medical terminology required
  • Knowledge in health care compliance, particularly HIPAA privacy, and confidentiality laws, access and release of information

Nice To Haves

  • Associate Degree Preferred
  • Completion of a related healthcare degree program, preferred
  • Registered Health Information Tech American Health Management Associationr (AHIMA credential – RHIT or RHIA) preferred
  • 3-4 years of health information management experience in an acute care setting OR 1 year HIM experience in an acute care setting, successful completion of an HIM Program and RHIA/RHIT exam eligible
