Health Information Privacy Coordinator

About The Position

This role is responsible for supporting and ensuring the organization's adherence to all federal and state privacy and security regulations, particularly the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), and investigating potential concerns involving the appropriate use and disclosure of Protected Health Information (PHI) and electronic PHI (ePHI).

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent; associate degree preferred
  • Proficient in MS Office, with strong skills in Outlook, Word, and Teams
  • Minimum of 5 years experience with HIPAA Compliance
  • Excellent time management skills and ability to multi-task and prioritize work
  • Attention to detail and problem-solving skills
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Professional appearance and customer service-oriented mindset
  • Strong organizational and planning skills
  • Proven ability to handle sensitive information with discretion
  • RHIA or RHIT certifications preferred
  • Use of computer for long periods of time.
  • Work consistently requires walking, standing, sitting, lifting, reaching, stooping, bending, pushing, and pulling.
  • Ability to concentrate on details.

Responsibilities

  • Investigates and responds to privacy and security incidents, including breaches, and supports timely reporting to relevant authorities.
  • Maintains up-to-date knowledge of federal and state privacy laws and HIPAA regulations.
  • Supports day-to-day medical record documentation requests in conjunction with release of information vendor.
  • Develops, implements, and maintains comprehensive HIPAA policies and procedures.
  • Conducts regular risk assessments and gap analyses to identify and mitigate privacy and security risks.
  • Develops and delivers HIPAA training and education programs for all workforce members.
  • Monitors and interprets changes in federal and state privacy and security laws and regulations and ensure organizational compliance.
  • Collaborates with IT to ensure the security of electronic protected health information (ePHI).
  • Conducts privacy and security audits and reviews to assess compliance.
  • Maintains accurate records of compliance activities and investigations.
  • Work with legal counsel on privacy related issues.
  • Represents Tryon Medical Partners in external audits and regulatory inquiries
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support office operations
