About The Position

Our Health Information Manager (HIM) at our Inpatient hospital in Lutcher, LA plays a critical role in managing and safeguarding patient health information to ensure accuracy, accessibility, and security in compliance with regulatory standards. This position involves overseeing the collection, storage, and retrieval of medical records, facilitating efficient information flow between healthcare providers, and supporting clinical decision-making processes. Our HIM professional ensures that all health data is maintained with the highest level of confidentiality and integrity, while also optimizing the use of health information technology systems. They collaborate closely with medical staff, IT teams, and compliance officers to implement best practices in health information management. Ultimately, the role contributes to improving patient care quality and operational efficiency within our behavioral inpatient environment.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in health information management, Health Informatics, or a related field.
• Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) or Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) certification.
• Knowledge of medical terminology, coding systems (such as ICD-10, CPT), and healthcare regulations including HIPAA.
• Experience with electronic health record (EHR) systems and health information technologies.
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Proficiency with electronic health record systems and coding standards is essential for daily documentation, data retrieval, and reporting tasks.
• Strong organizational and analytical skills support the identification and resolution of discrepancies in health information, contributing to data integrity and quality improvement initiatives.
• Effective communication and training skills are also vital for collaborating with clinical and administrative teams to promote best practices in health information management.

Nice To Haves

• Experience working in a hospital or large healthcare facility environment.
• Familiarity with data analytics and reporting tools used in healthcare settings.
• Project management experience related to health information systems implementation or upgrades.
• Additional certifications such as Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) or Certified Professional in Healthcare Quality (CPHQ).
• Data analytics and project management enhance the ability to lead system implementations and optimize health information workflows.

Responsibilities

• Manage and maintain accurate and complete patient health records in electronic and paper formats.
• Ensure compliance with federal, state, and organizational regulations related to health information privacy and security, including HIPAA.
• Coordinate with healthcare providers and administrative staff to facilitate timely access to health information for clinical and billing purposes.
• Implement and monitor health information systems to improve data quality, accessibility, and reporting capabilities.
• Conduct regular audits and quality checks to identify and resolve discrepancies or errors in health records.
• Train and support staff on proper documentation practices and use of health information technologies.
• Stay current with industry trends, regulatory changes, and emerging technologies in health information management.
