About The Position

The Louisiana Department of Public Safety & Corrections – Corrections Services is seeking applicants for the position of Health Information Coordinator 1–3 at the Louisiana State Penitentiary. This role is crucial for managing and organizing health records and medical information, ensuring the facility's medical operations run smoothly. The Health Information Coordinator is responsible for maintaining medical records, ensuring proper filing and recording of documentation, safeguarding confidential health information, and assisting medical and administrative staff with records management and information tracking. This position helps ensure compliance with policies, procedures, and privacy regulations while supporting the daily operations of the medical department. The ideal candidate will be detail-oriented, organized, dependable, and capable of maintaining strict confidentiality. Strong organizational and communication skills are essential. Requirements

  • One year of experience in administrative services; OR One year of training in or completion of a business or clerical-related curriculum from a business school or technical institute.
  • Every 30 semester hours earned from an accredited college or university will be credited as one year of experience towards the required general experience.

Responsibilities

  • Complete orders from Physicians, Nurses, Administrators and other members of Medical Staff regarding physical and electronic medical records.
  • Reviewing, scanning, indexing, uploading and attaching paper records and documents into EHR while maintaining the security and confidentiality of all health information.
  • Retrieves and updates patient records upon request and maintains custody files for records removed from department.
  • Perform all Medical Record functions involving physical (paper) health information records and Electronic Health Records (EHR).
