About The Position

Children’s Cardiology, a subsidiary of Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta, is comprised of more than 60 pediatric cardiologists providing comprehensive services for patients from before birth to age 21 who have acquired or congenital heart disease. The Health Information Coordinator is responsible for organizing patient medical records and processing all release of information in a timely and efficient manner while safeguarding patient health records following compliance with HIPAA standards.

Requirements

  • Minimum 2-3 years of healthcare medical records experience required.
  • Must have understanding of medical terminology for billing and coding.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and Adobe.
  • Effective oral and written communication.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks concurrently.
  • Strong attention to detail, organizational skills and follow-through discipline.

Nice To Haves

  • Associates degree preferred or equivalent work experience.
  • Medical records certification a plus.
  • Preferred experience with Epic.
  • Bilingual or Medical Interpreter certification a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Review physician schedules and upcoming patient appointments to ensure patient information/records are accurate and complete as possible.
  • Respond to requests for patient records, both within the company and by external sources, retrieving them and transmitting them appropriately.
  • Receive and process requests for patient health information in accordance with company and facility policies and procedures.
  • Validate requests and authorizations for release of medical information according to established procedures and HIPAA guidelines.
  • Provide helpful and effective customer service by providing appropriate information to patients, internal requests, and third-party vendors.
  • Maintain working knowledge of software applications in the execution of work processes.
  • Support the continuous assessment and improvement of the quality of services provided.
  • Provide technical and administrative assistance for other functions within the Health Information Services department as needed.
  • Perform other duties and projects as assigned.
