Health Informatics (HI) is the specialty that integrates health care science, computer science, and information science to manage and communicate data, information, knowledge, and wisdom in clinical practice across the care continuum. Health informatics facilitates the integration of data, information, knowledge and wisdom to support operations. This support is accomplished with information structures, information processes, and information technology. The goal of informatics is to improve the health of populations, communities, families, and individuals by designing lean, efficient workflows that balance end-user needs and enterprise standardization. These activities include the design and use of informatics solutions and technology to support all areas of health care delivery, including, but not limited to, the direct provision of care, establishing effective administrative systems, managing, and delivering education experiences, facilitation of adoption to enterprise health information technology solutions, enhancing lifelong learning, and supporting health care research.
