About The Position

The Trudeau Center is seeking a Health Teacher/Educator to join their Children's Pathways team. This role is responsible for developing and implementing a health education program aimed at promoting, maintaining, and improving students' health. The program focuses on increasing knowledge about health maintenance, disease prevention, reducing risky behaviors, and developing healthy attitudes and skills aligned with Rhode Island Health Education Standards. The position is part-time, 20 hours per week.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in education or special education or a related field.
  • All grades Health Educator certification required.
  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience providing instruction.
  • Minimum of two years’ experience with individuals diagnosed with autism or other developmental disabilities utilizing applied behavior analytic teaching methods.
  • Valid driver’s license, automobile insurance and own vehicle to be used as directed and when needed for transport.
  • Experience working with children with Autism Spectrum Disorders, Intellectual/Developmental Disabilities.
  • Ability to modify health education content to meet diverse cognitive, communication, and sensory needs.
  • Proficiency in using visual supports, tactile materials, and assistive technology to enhance learning.
  • Skilled in using alternative and augmentative communication (AAC) methods.
  • Experience working with special educators, therapists, paraprofessionals, and families.
  • Commitment to interdisciplinary planning.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement the health education program at Pathways.
  • Promote, maintain, and improve students' health.
  • Increase students' knowledge on how to maintain and improve overall health.
  • Educate on disease prevention and reducing health-related risky behaviors.
  • Develop healthy attitudes and skills that address the Rhode Island Health Education Standards.
  • Adapt health education in a developmentally appropriate and comprehensive manner.
