Health Educator & Prevention Specialist (Part-time, 0.5 FTE)
About The Position
The part-time (0.5 FTE) Health Educator & Prevention Specialist will work with the Adolescent Family Planning Program (BC4U) and Aurora Public Schools, both of which are committed to offering comprehensive sexual health education to all youth throughout the State of Colorado. This is an exciting new role, and the final candidate will have the opportunity to lend an innovative lens to how it operates and works amongst the two organizations/programs. The Health Educator & Prevention Specialist will partner closely with BC4U’s Director of Program Development, Clinic Medical Director, and Program Manager to understand BC4U’s clinical services, outreach models, and in-clinic workflows to inform their work at Aurora Public Schools (APS) with an APS Teacher on Special Assignment focused on health.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in public/community health, social work, or a directly related field from an accredited university.
- A combination of education and related technical/paraprofessional experience may be substituted for the bachelor’s degree on a year-for-year basis.
- Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.
- Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States without requiring sponsorship.
- Must be willing and able to pass national criminal and sex offender background checks.
- Must successfully pass a 10-panel drug screen through Children’s Hospital Colorado.
- Ability to communicate effectively, both in writing and orally.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees at all levels throughout the institution.
- Outstanding customer service skills.
- Ability to interact in a compassionate and nonjudgmental manner with a diverse client population with a commitment to health equity.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills.
- Proficient in computer skills including Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, internet, and email.
Nice To Haves
- At least one (1) year of experience working with young adults or adolescents.
- At least one (1) year of experience working in prevention or community health.
- Experience teaching sexual education to adolescents or young adults.
- Experience working in a clinical setting.
- Work experience in a middle school and/or high school setting.
- Demonstrated experience in community organizing and/or community engagement.
Responsibilities
- Developing robust sexual health curriculum presentations for youth in Colorado alongside BC4U and Aurora Public Schools.
- Delivering sexual health education to middle-school and high-school students in Aurora Public Schools and various additional districts.
- Promote BC4U clinic services throughout APS and beyond.
- Partner with BC4U leadership’s Program Manager to ensure health education is embedded into BC4U’s and APS’ strategic plans.
- Develop and maintain BC4U’s Youth Advisory Board.
