About The Position

Join New Mexico State University as a Health Education Specialist Senior and help lead innovative health promotion initiatives that empower students to thrive. As a key member of the newly established Aggie Prevention & Well-Being Programs team, you will design and deliver evidence-informed programs focused on alcohol and other drug prevention, mental health promotion, student resilience, and healthy decision-making. Working alongside an interdisciplinary prevention team, you'll collaborate with campus partners to create a healthier, safer, and more engaged campus community while making a lasting impact on student success.

Requirements

  • Associate's Degree + 4 years of relevant experience or a Bachelor's degree + 2 years of relevant experience.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree in Public Health, Health Education, Counseling, Student Affairs, or a related field.
  • Two or more years of experience in health promotion or education in a college or public health setting.
  • Demonstrated ability to supervise and mentor student employees or peer educators.
  • Strong presentation and communication skills with experience in workshop delivery and program facilitation.
  • Experience with data collection, program assessment, and health promotion planning.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively across departments and with diverse student populations.
  • Experience developing grant proposals and managing funded health education projects.
  • Familiarity with campus health trends, prevention best practices, and behavioral health models.
  • Proficiency in creating health communication campaigns and using social media for education outreach.
  • CHES or MCHES certification

Responsibilities

  • Serves as the senior prevention & health education leader in developing, implementing, and evaluating health promotion programs that foster student well-being, academic success, and retention.
  • Manages the peer education and health education internship programs.
  • Oversees assessment and compliance efforts—including IRB processes.
  • Collaborates with campus and community partners to address student health needs.
  • Plays a key role in grant development.
  • Manages fee-funded resources to support prevention and well-being initiatives.
