About The Position

Under the supervision of the Program Manager, this role provides HIV and STD testing, triages HIV-positive patients into medical care, coordinates, schedules, and conducts outreach events targeting gay and bisexual men and transgender clients of color, and creates and sustains working relationships with businesses and community members where outreach will be conducted. The department specializes in providing LGBT medical and mental health services, aiming to help LGBTQ people lead healthier lives. Services are free or low cost, and the center is a Federally Qualified Health Center with specialized providers and a research team.

Requirements

Knowledge of or experience working with the LGBTQ community and familiarity with issues of particular relevance to LGBTQ people.
A passion for the Center’s work and its mission to make the world a better place for LGBTQ people.
Knowledge of HIV/AIDS-related issues and concerns required.
Must be able to apply principles of cultural competency in working with gay/bisexual men of color and transgender individuals.
Understanding of health education principles and behavior, people of color, and community resources in Los Angeles County.
Proficiency with database operations, spreadsheets, and other software systems.
Demonstrated ability to work effectively with people of diverse races, ethnicities, nationalities, sexual orientations, gender identities, gender expression, socio-economic backgrounds, religions, ages, English-speaking abilities, immigration status, and physical abilities in a multicultural environment.

Nice To Haves

One year experience in health education, psychology or related field, or equivalent education preferred.
Minimum 1 year experience in outreach, community organizing, and project management preferred.
Certification in HIV Counseling and testing preferred.
Certification in Phlebotomy or eligible for training preferred.
Access to reliable transportation, valid California driver license, clean DMV record, and ability to obtain insurance preferred.

Responsibilities

Coordinate, schedule, and conduct outreach activities at locations where LGBTQ+ people congregate to assess individual risk behaviors.
Develop and maintain a working relationship with community business owners where outreach, workshop, and support group activities are conducted.
Provide HIV/STD counseling and testing.
Provide phlebotomy services for HIV, syphilis, and hepatitis testing.
Collect and collate oral, blood, and urine specimens.
Assist in the preparation of test results and follow up with clients who have not obtained their results.
Maintain accurate logs regarding lab tests, confirmatory results, and missing results.
Accurately enter risk assessment data in electronic medical record.
Triage HIV positive clients to the Jeffrey Goodman Clinic and other community resources and referrals.
Assist with preparation of monthly quantitative and qualitative reports and monitor program goals and objectives.
Participate in community task forces and meetings as necessary.
Collaborate with local agencies that conduct HIV risk reduction programs targeting at-risk gay and bisexual men and transgender women.
Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment.
