About The Position

The Health Centre Manager at Brisbane Grammar School is required to lead and deliver a health service within the School. This position’s advanced level of practice is based on the NMBA Competency Standards for Registered Nurses (RN). The Health Centre Manager position requires a high level of clinical expertise, leadership, communication, organisational skills, and ability to make health care decisions within a primary health care environment. The role also serves as a resource capacity to the Brisbane Grammar School student and staff community. In addition to providing primary nursing care with its associated administrative duties, the Health Centre Manager role requires the co-ordination, administration and management of the Health Centre overseeing the activities of other registered nurses within the health service. The Health Centre operates each day to provide a professional health service to all students (including boarders), staff and visitors attending Brisbane Grammar School.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 5 years post graduate experience.
  • Bachelor’s degree in nursing or equivalent qualification.
  • APHRA registration without disqualification or implication of practice.
  • Experience of working in at least one of the following: School nursing environment; Accident & Emergency nursing; Paediatric, Adolescent and Family Health and/or a Primary Health Care setting.
  • Leadership skills sufficient to manage and motivate a small team.
  • Adheres to work health and safety legislation within School environment, participates as member of Workplace Health and Safety Committee
  • Demonstrate advanced application of clinical and professional leadership
  • Accountable for the delivery of safe clinical practice and professional advice including provision of first aid, emergency care and treatment for all service recipients
  • Appropriately accesses and promotes the use of validated tools to assess the health status of students.
  • Collaborates in partnership with student/s and/or family, and Student Wellbeing Team and external health professionals as appropriate to formulate and document health management plans
  • Implement, coordinates and documents comprehensive, safe and effective evidence-based nursing interventions to achieve planned individual health and wellbeing outcomes for students.
  • Contribute to quality improvement activities to ensure continuous development and quality of service
  • Advocate for the rights of all students, providing education and support in areas of health and wellbeing
  • Effectively implement evidence-based health promotion and preventive care within the school community
  • Co-ordinates, monitors, advises where appropriate regarding communicable diseases according to school procedures and public health advice
  • Build and maintain networks with other school and primary health care nurses
  • Demonstrate proficiency in the use of information technology to manage information and support decision making in nursing practice
  • Clarify and promote the role of the health service within the School community
  • Demonstrate communication and relationship building skills to build and maintain networks and links within the School community and with relevant local healthcare providers and community services
  • Liaise effectively with boarding staff in managing the health and wellbeing of boarders.
  • Contributes to the maintenance of a healthy work and learning environment that is respectful, safe, and supportive of students, the School community and self
  • Effectively manages the Health Centre budget
  • Manage the Health Centre by coordinating a small team of Registered Nurses to deliver a high standard of primary care to all students and staff attending Brisbane Grammar School.
  • Must undergo an extensive screening process prior to appointment.
  • Must disclose any information relevant to their eligibility to engage in activities involving children.

Nice To Haves

  • Post graduate qualification in Nursing desirable.
  • Experience in a position of leadership or equivalent
  • Pastoral/ mental health nursing experience is desirable.
  • Experience of working in an educational environment with children and young people aged 3-18 is an advantage.
  • Advanced First Aid qualified and experienced

Responsibilities

  • Practice within ANMF National School Nursing Standards for Practice: Registered Nurse
  • Demonstrate advanced level of specialist knowledge, experience, and clinical skills in area of school nursing/child and adolescent health/accident and emergency/primary health care
  • Provide leadership in professional decision making through application of advanced knowledge and skills
  • Integrate nursing and healthcare knowledge, skills, and attitudes to provide safe, effective, and quality healthcare in the School community
  • Practice in accordance with legislation related to nursing practice in the School environment
  • Contribute to the development and/or review of policies, procedures, guidelines within the School and provide updates/education to School Community when appropriate
  • Undertake annual staff reviews, assess personal development needs of staff and provide opportunity to participate in relevant professional development
  • Demonstrate understanding and practices within own scope of practice, seeks own professional development
  • Adhere to legislative requirements for medicines management in the School environment. Work with both Health Centre and all School staff to ensure consistency of practice in line with School Medication Policy
  • Maintain ongoing evidence-based school nursing practice, identifying gaps with existing service and integrate changes as required
  • Practices in the School environment in accordance with agreed role statement and professional nursing standards
  • Work collaboratively with registered nurses and others to create a positive practice environment that achieves best practice outcomes for all recipients of the Health Centre services.
  • Practice in a way that acknowledges the dignity, integrity, culture, values, beliefs privacy and rights of individuals
  • Integrate key objectives from the School strategic plan into service delivery
  • Advise and contribute to the application of new School Information System to ensure legislative requirements regarding health documentation are met and that seamless and continuous care by Health Centre team is possible.
