The Health Careers work-based or laboratory instructor, working directly under the Principal of WHS/WACTC in conjunction with the health careers program teachers, shall help to develop in each student an insight and understanding of the Health Careers industry and its place in our society, and build career and technical skills in Health Careers that will prepare each student for college and career readiness in the 21st century. Implement effective lesson plans and ensure they are always available for substitutes' use and administrators' reference, in conjunction with classroom teachers. Utilizes and implements the yearly course syllabus for students and parents. Demonstrates occupational materials, equipment, tools, technology, and processes using standard or teacher-prepared models, mock-ups, sketches, and other instructional aids. Maintains the standards of student behavior needed to provide an orderly, safe, and productive environment in a project-based classroom with some potential hazards. Maintains control of storage and use of tools, materials, and property to prevent loss or abuse and requests repairs as needed. Evaluate each student’s performance, knowledge, and skills using a standardized, competency-based curriculum. Provides individual and group instruction in lab(s) and workplace setting(s) appropriate to the needs of the student (s) and the requirements of the activities being performed. Maintains professional competence through professional development activities provided by the district, state, or national organizations. Keeps complete and accurate records of student grades and attendance, and informs classroom teachers of information in a timely manner. Collaborates with classroom teachers on individual student progress and plan of action as needed. Helps supervise the conduct and welfare of all students on school premises and grounds as well as in the field during work-based training(s). Works with the classroom teacher to revise and align curricula to industry and Common Core State Standards in collaboration with colleagues, the Principal of WHS/WACTC, and the Director of Curriculum. Integrates technology (computer diagnostics, laptops, and computer/projectors) appropriately into the Health Careers Program curricula. Maintains and strengthens existing Health Careers partnerships. Educates students on the proper procedures and practices of health care professionals in workplace settings (nursing home, assisted living, hospital, community center, etc.). Performs other duties and responsibilities as may be assigned and are consistent with this position.
