The Brenda Strafford Foundation (BSF) is a charitable organization that currently owns and operates five Aging Care & Senior Living communities in Calgary, AB, and Okotoks, AB. We take pride in providing a safe, caring, and comfortable home environment that caters to the complex needs of our senior residents and families. Locally, in Calgary, BSF also operates Alberta’s largest second-stage shelter providing safe shelter and comprehensive support services to women and children leaving abuse and violence. Requirements
- Graduate of a Government of Alberta approved Health Care Aide program
- Registered with the Alberta Health Care Aide Directory
- Commitment to confidentiality, professionalism, and providing dignified care to all
- Superior organizational and time management skills
- Strong communication skills in person, in writing and over the phone
- Attention to detail
- Flexibility, resourcefulness, and problem-solving skills
- Commitment to being a strong team player
- In accordance with Alberta's Protection for Persons in Care Act, a criminal record check is required for successful candidates.
- As a condition of employment with “BSF”, all new Health Care Worker hires must provide written proof of immunizations for communicable diseases.
Nice To Haves
- Experience in geriatric, rehabilitation, or long-term care nursing is preferred
Responsibilities
- Demonstrate awareness and understanding of the resident needs
- Observe and report unusual signs/symptoms and incidences to the professional nursing staff
- Provide timely information to the supervising professional regarding observed changes in physical, mental or emotional status/behaviour of the residents
- Participate in the care plan for our residents
- Recognize residents’ challenges related to vision, hearing, speech, and language and adapt practice to minimize these challenges
- Document all care provided and behaviours noted on the appropriate forms and in the Point of Care (POC) system
- Promote a healthy and safe practice environment – recognizing safety issues and reporting them immediately
