About The Position

The Brenda Strafford Foundation (BSF) is a charitable organization that currently owns and operates five Aging Care & Senior Living communities in Calgary, AB, and Okotoks, AB. We take pride in providing a safe, caring, and comfortable home environment that caters to the complex needs of our senior residents and families. Locally, in Calgary, BSF also operates Alberta’s largest second-stage shelter providing safe shelter and comprehensive support services to women and children leaving abuse and violence. Requirements

  • Graduate of a Government of Alberta approved Health Care Aide program
  • Registered with the Alberta Health Care Aide Directory
  • Commitment to confidentiality, professionalism, and providing dignified care to all
  • Superior organizational and time management skills
  • Strong communication skills in person, in writing and over the phone
  • Attention to detail
  • Flexibility, resourcefulness, and problem-solving skills
  • Commitment to being a strong team player
  • In accordance with Alberta's Protection for Persons in Care Act, a criminal record check is required for successful candidates.
  • As a condition of employment with “BSF”, all new Health Care Worker hires must provide written proof of immunizations for communicable diseases.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in geriatric, rehabilitation, or long-term care nursing is preferred

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrate awareness and understanding of the resident needs
  • Observe and report unusual signs/symptoms and incidences to the professional nursing staff
  • Provide timely information to the supervising professional regarding observed changes in physical, mental or emotional status/behaviour of the residents
  • Participate in the care plan for our residents
  • Recognize residents’ challenges related to vision, hearing, speech, and language and adapt practice to minimize these challenges
  • Document all care provided and behaviours noted on the appropriate forms and in the Point of Care (POC) system
  • Promote a healthy and safe practice environment – recognizing safety issues and reporting them immediately
