About The Position

Under the direction of the Director, Health Services, this role provides a variety of health services at a District site, prepares and maintains related records, files, and reports. The position is located at Newport Elementary School, working 7 hours per day, 5 days per week, for 10 months per year. The ability to speak Spanish is required for some locations, which includes a bilingual proficiency exam and a 2.5% bilingual stipend at time of hire.

Requirements

  • Graduation from high school.
  • Some experience involving general office work.
  • Valid First Aid and CPR Certification issued by an authorized agency (must be obtained within probationary period).
  • Ability to speak Spanish (required for some locations).
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite Software.
  • Access to a computer with an internet connection.

  • Experience in a health care service environment is desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Provide a variety of health services for students.
  • Assist in the evaluation and documentation of student health complaints and determine appropriate action.
  • Maintain related records using a computerized system.
  • Screen student complaints to report medical conditions, take and record temperatures, assist asthmatic students, and provide first aid.
  • Administer prescribed medications according to physician instructions and District procedures.
  • Communicate with parents, health care providers, other departments, and the school nurse regarding student condition and care.
  • Identify students needing immunizations and CHDP physicals, maintain updated records, and send follow-up notices.
  • Prepare for and organize health screenings (vision, dental, hearing), follow up on referrals, and maintain records.
  • Process incoming records for new students and update health information for current students, verifying compliance with state regulations.
  • Assist with specialized medical needs for disabled students, monitor blood sugar levels, respond to seizures, perform catheterizations, and other specialized health care procedures.
  • Check pulse oxygen levels and administer inhalers or nebulizers under the direction of the school nurse.
  • Notify teachers of student activity restrictions.
  • Order health office supplies, refill classroom first aid kits, and maintain the health office.
  • Prepare, coordinate, and organize medications and authorizations for field trips and other special events.
  • Maintain order and discipline in the student health office and maintain a log of students visiting.
  • Instruct students on proper personal hygiene, assist students with changing clothes and using the restroom, and check for head lice.
  • Perform routine clerical duties such as filing, typing, answering phones, preparing student records, sending faxes, and duplicating materials.
  • Operate a variety of office equipment including a computer.
  • Assist in the documentation of accidents.
  • Attend and participate in various meetings and conferences related to assigned activities.
