About The Position

AECOM is seeking a Health and Safety Site Representative to support a major hydroelectric infrastructure project in the Fredericton region. The successful candidate will be responsible for promoting and maintaining a strong health and safety culture throughout all phases of project execution, ensuring compliance with applicable regulations, client requirements, and project-specific safety standards. Working closely with project management, construction teams, contractors, and joint venture partners, the Health and Safety Site Representative will play a key role in supporting safe work practices and fostering continuous improvement in health and safety performance.

Requirements

  • Diploma or certificate in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Health and Safety, Construction Safety, or a related discipline.
  • Minimum 4 years of experience as a HSE representative.
  • Experience supporting health and safety programs on construction, industrial, infrastructure, energy, or heavy civil projects.
  • Strong knowledge of occupational health and safety legislation, regulations, and industry best practices.
  • Experience conducting safety inspections, audits, and incident investigations.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to travel to and from the project site.

Nice To Haves

  • National Construction Safety Officer (NCSO), Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP), or equivalent designation.
  • 10+ years of experience as a site HSE representative on major construction projects
  • Experience supporting large infrastructure, hydroelectric, energy, industrial, or heavy civil construction projects.
  • Knowledge of New Brunswick occupational health and safety legislation.
  • Strong communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary project environment.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct regular site inspections, audits, and observations to verify compliance with project safety requirements, applicable legislation, and company policies.
  • Promote a proactive health and safety culture through daily engagement with project personnel and contractors.
  • Identify hazards, assess risks, and recommend corrective and preventive actions.
  • Monitor compliance with safe work procedures, permits, personal protective equipment (PPE) requirements, and regulatory obligations, before work begins.
  • Participate in incident, injury, near-miss, and environmental event investigations, including root cause analysis and corrective action follow-up.
  • Assist in the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of project-specific health and safety plans, procedures, and programs.
  • Make recommendations to management for incident prevention and safety program activities.
  • Monitor the effectiveness of safety programs and procedures.
  • Facilitate or participate in toolbox talks, safety meetings, orientations, and awareness campaigns and maintain a strong field presence.
  • Provide guidance and coaching to supervisors, contractors, and workers on safe work practices and hazard mitigation.
  • Participate in resolving workplace refusals and work stoppages.
  • Maintain accurate safety records, inspection reports, incident documentation, and project statistics.
  • Support project management in achieving health and safety objectives and key performance indicators.
  • Collaborate with client representatives, regulatory agencies, and project stakeholders as required.
