About The Position

We are looking for an experienced Health and Safety Manager to join our team. The successful candidate will provide leadership, oversight, and support to the site safety, mine rescue, and medical teams while working closely with all departments to promote a strong safety culture. This role supports the development and implementation of health and safety programs, ensures regulatory compliance, and leads incident investigations and risk assessments. The manager will also provide guidance to leaders across site, oversee contractor and injury management processes, and support ongoing safety improvement across the operation.

Requirements

  • 10+ years’ experience in a health and safety leadership role preferably within the mining industry.
  • Canadian Registered Safety Professional Designation or recognized degree in Occupational Health and Safety.
  • Advanced health, safety and security knowledge and compliance with all relevant laws, policies, procedures, and guidelines.
  • Must have demonstrated experience leading and directing employees and teams.
  • Must have demonstrated experience in dealing with contractors and contractor management system.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and experience with Health and Safety software programs.
  • Must have the ability to communicate effectively and be adaptable to working with various personality types and communication styles while maintaining high levels of confidentiality.
  • Must have a collaborative approach to required actions while operating with integrity and commitment in a consistent manner.
  • Excellent organizational skills with a high degree of accuracy.
  • Valid Class 5 Driver’s License
  • Clean Driver’s Abstract

Nice To Haves

  • Incident Command (ICS) certification considered an asset.
  • Mine Rescue certification would be considered an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Provide supervision and guidance to the mine rescue, medical clinic, and safety teams.
  • Active involvement in the development, implementation and monitoring of health and safety policies, programs and initiatives aligned with corporate standards and procedures.
  • Facilitate and participate in incident investigations and risk assessments ensuring demonstrated accountability and support to the departments for implementation of corrective actions.
  • Build and maintain positive working relationship and provide guidance, coaching and support to supervisors and managers in dealing with safety related concerns or compliance.
  • Ensure Health, Safety and Security policy, programs, standards, and procedures are communicated and implemented consistently across all site departments and contractors.
  • Active involvement with the injury management team including overseeing regulatory compliance requirement under Yukon regulations in conjunction with the Human Resources team.
  • Active involvement and oversight of the contractor management plan.
  • Build and maintain relationships within the workforce developing your own reputation for availability, knowledge expertise and reliability.
  • Develop relationships with government inspectors to create and promote a safe work environment.
  • Review internal and external health and safety reports to determine areas for continuous improvement.
  • Participate in daily, weekly, and monthly meetings as required showing an active presence throughout the site including participation in the JOHSC.
  • Participate in the development, implementation, and maintenance of processes for regular audits and inspections of Health, Safety and Security policies, standards, procedures, risk assessments, and legal safety.
  • Support the development of the Emergency Response capacities and capabilities.
  • Ensure all legislative and regulatory reporting is completed and submitted as required.
  • Ensure equipment, facilities, and processes are in place to conduct reasonable cause and post incident drug and alcohol testing.
  • Ensure Ergonomic and Hygiene Assessments are conducted on a periodic basis and in compliance with Yukon regulation.
  • Provide recommendations, corrective actions and ensure efficient implementation of corrective measures.
  • Ensure investigations into injuries, accidents and unsafe acts and conditions are properly conducted, tracked, documented, causal factors identified, and appropriate corrective actions identified and implemented.
