The Health and Safety Manager is pivotal in leading, maintaining, and continuously improving the safety culture at 4Seasons Transportation. This position is responsible for developing and managing all safety-related programs, ensuring regulatory compliance, and driving organizational risk mitigation strategies. As a senior leadership team member, the Health and Safety Manager supports a proactive, collaborative approach to safety.

Requirements

  • 5–10 years of experience in a health and safety leadership role; experience in the transportation industry is an asset.
  • Professional certification - CRSP or CSP
  • Regulatory knowledge, high proficiency in OSHA standards, hazard identification and incident investigation
  • Completion of the Qualified Health and Safety Officer by AASP or another known and reputable organization.
  • In-depth knowledge of Alberta Occupational Health and Safety legislation and standards.
  • Proven experience in a management role, including conducting performance evaluations, providing and receiving feedback, as well as participating in hiring and termination processes.
  • Formal investigation training by a known and reputable organization.
  • Proven ability to identify hazards, lead investigations, and develop effective safety programs.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and analytical skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and Excel, and safety reporting tools/platforms.
  • Effective leadership, communication and problem-solving skills are vital
  • Class 4S licence; licensing and training will be provided by 4Seasons if not already held.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, maintain, and archive all safety policies and programs in alignment with 4Seasons' values and Alberta Occupational Health and Safety legislation. Key documents include; Alberta Health and Safety Standards, 4Seasons Health and Safety Manual, 4Seasons Preventive Maintenance Manual, and 4Seasons Fire Safety Plan.
  • Lead a team of 4Seasons Safety Coordinators, delegating tasks, overseeing deadlines, and managing performance and accountability.
  • Participate in senior management meetings and contribute to the company's overall growth.
  • Overseeing management, pulling, and archiving camera video, with the involvement of other senior managers.
  • Deliver, maintain, and continuously improve employee health and safety training programs; facilitate regular training sessions, team meetings, group workshops, and large-scale presentations.
  • Collaborate with Operations, Student Care, Fleet, Human Resources, Supervisors and other departments to ensure safe, compliant routing and transportation services.
  • Attend school and stakeholder meetings as required to support student and operational safety.
  • Maintain strong communication with supervisors, schools, and internal departments to ensure safe service delivery.
  • Schedule and attend regular site visits.
  • Serve as the lead responder for collisions and incidents, providing on-scene leadership and acting as liaison between Dispatch, the Operations Manager, and the CEO. Completing, compiling and overseeing the collision investigations.
  • Monitor 4Seasons compliance with municipal, provincial, and federal health and safety regulations.
  • Support and contribute to Safety Department initiatives, including employee-focused programs such as the Health and Safety Committee, safety-related communications, and 4Seasons' safety recognition and retention programs.
  • Manage and oversee Safety Department administration, including internal safety audits, investigations, inspections, and compliance management across all levels of the organization.
  • Tracking safety-related trends both internally at 4Seasons and within the North American transportation community at large.
  • Oversee and archive the follow-up of all hazard reports.
  • Lead, facilitate and/or coordinate external safety audits, including NSCA, OH&S, COR/ACES, and contract-specific audits.
  • Lead and coordinate road monitors and route compliances.
  • Conduct and oversee site-specific assessments.
  • Manage evacuation training across the company, including overseeing content development and facilitation.
  • Maintain ongoing correspondence with 4Seasons' insurance providers and brokerage partners, including reporting, submitting, and following up on insurance claims.
  • Compile information for appeals and ensure the 4Seasons carrier profile is kept up to date with relevant data, including collisions and convictions.
  • Participate in the employee disciplinary and remedial process, including but not limited to facilitating remedial training, issuing verbal and written warnings, suspending employees, and conducting terminations.
  • Oversee and be involved in various hirings as directed by the 4Seasons Human Resource Manager.
