About The Position

This role identifies hazardous workplace conditions and takes preliminary samples and measurements of hazardous forces and toxic substances. The analyst removes hazards and/or protects employees by guarding, revising work procedures, and training or requiring the use of protective clothing and personal protective equipment. They ensure that workplace conditions comply with applicable federal and state occupational safety and health standard provisions of any labor agreement, and that all required records are prepared and maintained. The position participates in Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) inspections and in any procedures that may follow a citation. The analyst investigates, prepares, and forwards reports on injuries and fatalities as required, and conducts safe work procedures training courses. Additionally, the role provides fire prevention oversight and assessment for an assigned Area of Responsibility (AOR), including applicable facilities, vessels, dry docks, piers, and supporting infrastructure. This involves maintaining a routine field presence to assess compliance with applicable fire prevention requirements, including hot work controls, combustible material management, housekeeping, and other fire and life-safety requirements. The analyst documents identified hazards and deficiencies, ensures appropriate follow-up and resolution, and coordinates with other safety personnel supporting the assigned area. They participate in operational safety reviews, pre-job and worksite engagements, incident learning and causal-analysis activities, safety briefings, and formal fire safety inspections and assessments. The role involves developing subject-matter expertise in hot work, housekeeping, combustible control, and other fire prevention requirements and, following applicable qualification, performs facility fire safety assessments against applicable fire and life-safety codes and standards. Support is provided for fire event response, investigations, corrective-action development, and an on-call rotation for emergent fire safety issues. The analyst maintains an integrated understanding of the fire safety posture within the assigned area through analysis of field observations, inspection results, fire and near-miss events, operational conditions, and other performance data. Recurring reports and assessments are developed to communicate significant conditions, trends, recurring deficiencies, corrective-action status, and overall fire safety performance. Causal analysis of significant or recurring issues is performed, recommended corrective actions addressing identified causes are developed, and concise, technically supported assessments and recommendations are communicated to Fire Safety management and operational leadership.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree and 0 years of relevant exempt experience.
  • NNS Apprentice School graduate
  • Navy Nuclear Power School (NNPS) graduate
  • Associate's Degree or other formal 2 year program and 2 years of relevant exempt experience or 4 years of relevant non-exempt experience
  • Military Paygrade E-5 or above military experience
  • High School/GED and 4 years combined of Manufacturing, Shipbuilding, Trades, Military experience or other relevant exempt experience
  • High School/GED and 8 years combined of Manufacturing, Shipbuilding, Trades, Military experience or other relevant non-exempt experience
  • US Citizenship Required

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with hot work operations, fire prevention, combustible material control, housekeeping, or industrial fire safety.
  • Experience conducting safety inspections, audits, assessments, field observations, or compliance surveillance.
  • Fire Inspector, Fire Plans Examiner, Certified Fire Protection Specialist (CFPS), or similar fire protection qualification or training.
  • OSHA certifications or formal occupational safety and health training.
  • Experience aboard naval or commercial vessels or within shipbuilding, ship repair, construction, manufacturing, or other complex industrial environments.
  • Working knowledge of OSHA requirements, NFPA standards, fire/building codes, or other applicable fire and life-safety requirements.
  • Experience participating in incident investigations, causal analysis, root-cause evaluations, or corrective-action development.
  • Experience analyzing safety, inspection, or operational data to identify trends, recurring issues, and areas of elevated risk.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, Word, and similar tools for data analysis, reporting, and presentation development.
  • Strong technical writing, presentation, and verbal communication skills, including the ability to translate field observations and data into concise assessments for management.
  • Ability to independently manage an assigned area, coordinate across multiple organizations, and drive identified issues through appropriate resolution.
