Requirements

  • 5+ years experience working with the Occupational Health and Safety discipline.
  • Post-secondary education in Occupational Health & Safety or equivalent industry experience.
  • Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) or Canadian Registered Safety Technician (CRST) designation preferred. However, will accept someone who is committed to professional growth and is either pursuing or prepared to obtain a CRSP or CRST designation.
  • Safety Officer designation. Manufacturing Safety Officer (MSO) or National Construction Safety Officer is preferred.
  • Ability to make critical decisions in complex and high-risk situations.
  • Strong organizational and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work effectively and prioritize tasks often with competing deadlines.
  • Able to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong communication skills including the ability to deal with others tactfully and professionally.
  • Able to effectively liaise and collaborate with others.
  • Open to and offer suggestions with a focus on continual improvement; individually, safety team, and organization.
  • Valid Alberta Driver's license with occasional travel required.

Nice To Haves

  • Train-the-trainer certification in all or some of forklift, overhead crane, scissor lift, fall protection, and rigging an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate health and safety training, including certifications and new hire orientations.
  • Development and updating of toolbox meetings, MEMO's, PowerPoint Training Courses, Bulletins, SWP's, HAA's & Policies.
  • Support JHSC with education and resources.
  • Timely and accurate updating of all required safety matrixes and statistical information.
  • Ensure incidents are reported and offer administrative support for WCB claims.
  • Address non-compliance and hazards with corrective actions.
  • Follow up on incidents and non-compliance and recommend corrective actions.
  • Conduct facility inspections, complete safety inspection reports, and follow up on corrective action items.
  • Maintain Safety Boards and weekly update Days without Lost Time Injuries' statistics.
  • Ensure plant safety binders are current, including SDS, SWP, HAA, Training, and Safety Manual binders.
