About The Position

The Health & Safety Advisor plays a key role in supporting and advancing Assiniboine Park Conservancy’s (APC) enterprise-wide health and safety program. Reporting to the Vice President, People Strategy & Services, the Health & Safety Advisor is responsible for leading workplace health and safety initiatives, supporting regulatory compliance, conducting investigations and risk assessments, and promoting a culture of safety accountability across all APC operations. This position works collaboratively with leaders, employees, volunteers, contractors, and Joint Workplace Safety & Health Committees to ensure APC maintains safe, compliant, and operationally effective work environments across the Park, Zoo, The Leaf, public spaces, events, hospitality operations, and back-of-house environments. The Health & Safety Advisor provides subject matter expertise in occupational health and safety, disability management, incident investigation, workplace inspections, safety training, policy development, and organizational risk mitigation while supporting APC’s People First culture and operational priorities.

Requirements

  • Post-secondary education in Occupational Health & Safety, Human Resources, Business, or a related discipline.
  • Minimum of five (5) to seven (7) years of progressive occupational health and safety experience in a complex operational environment.
  • Experience conducting workplace investigations, audits, inspections, and risk assessments.
  • Experience managing WCB claims, return-to-work programs, and disability management processes.
  • Experience interpreting and applying workplace health and safety legislation and regulatory requirements.
  • Experience developing and facilitating workplace safety training programs.
  • Experience working within unionized environments and participating in labour relations discussions related to workplace safety.
  • Must possess a valid Manitoba Driver’s License or equivalent.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

Nice To Haves

  • Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP), or equivalent designation
  • Certification in incident investigation, disability management, COR/SAFE Work auditing, or related safety training
  • Standard First Aid/CPR certification
