About The Position

The Health & Benefits (H&B) team at WTW focuses on helping clients manage health and welfare plan costs, improve employee health outcomes, and enhance employee engagement through innovative solutions. We offer services in creative plan design, vendor management, pricing strategies, data analytics, compliance, and specialty consulting. As a Health and Benefits Intern, you will gain hands-on experience with client assignments, working alongside industry experts. You will develop technical knowledge and industry expertise through analyzing data, drawing conclusions, and presenting results. The internship includes twice-weekly learning and networking sessions with colleagues and leaders across WTW businesses. Interns will gain exposure to functions like Client Service Teams (CST), which manage client engagements and strategic support, and Financial, Actuarial, and Analytics (FAA) teams, which lead quantitative and risk conversations with clients using financial management and data analytics expertise.

Requirements

  • Progress towards a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in human capital/human resource management, health economics, risk management & insurance, business management, marketing and finance, actuarial science, advanced mathematics, or any other major with significant quantitative work.
  • Minimum overall GPA of 3.0.
  • Prior internship or other work experience demonstrating increasing levels of complex work, autonomy, and client service skills.
  • Ability to be a self-starter and work independently, but also cooperatively in a close team environment.
  • Passion for solving problems and sharing solutions to exceed client standards.
  • Resourceful and creative; inquisitive.
  • Sense of accountability; owning one’s work and taking pride in it.
  • Thrives in a fast-paced, client-oriented environment.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Excellent Microsoft Office skills, particularly in Excel and PowerPoint.
  • This is a hybrid position that requires you to be local and able to commute to one of the Midwest offices (Chicago or Detroit).
  • Able to work legally in the United States indefinitely and without Visa sponsorship.
  • Accepting applications from candidates that graduate with a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree between December 2027 through June 2028.

  • For Actuarial students: Successful completion of one or more actuarial exams is beneficial.

Responsibilities

  • Support the development and implementation of new client strategies and solutions.
  • Analyze and compare vendor products, services, and contracts.
  • Perform financial analyses, including developing pricing, creating employee contribution strategies, and modeling plan design alternatives.
  • Gain specialized knowledge in areas such as pharmacy, life and disability insurance, health equity and wellbeing, vendor placement, actuarial/analytics, and more.
  • Evaluate responses to surveys and vendor proposals.
