About The Position

The Health Aide works under the supervision, training, and direction of a professional school-registered nurse. Responsibilities include providing healthcare, basic life support, and first aid to students; performing clerical and secretarial tasks; and completing other duties as delegated by the Registered Nurse. The Health Aide is also responsible for responding to and managing medical emergencies on school grounds.

  • Criminal background check required for employment.
  • Administering Medications in a School Setting certification is required.
  • Completion of school health aide training under the School Nurse upon hire.
  • CPR and First Aid certification required upon hire.
  • All personnel must fully complete Windsor Charter Academy's safety training, ALICE (Alert, Lockdown, Inform, Counter, Evacuate).
  • Associate's Degree or higher preferred.
  • Related experience in a school setting.
  • Related experience in a health care setting.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience is acceptable.

Responsibilities

  • Attend to students visiting the health office.
  • Provide health care and/or first aid according to established policies & protocols.
  • Provide support for students' mental health needs.
  • Complete pediculosis checks as necessary.
  • Follow established Healthcare Plans and treat students according to their known health conditions.
  • Evaluate students' health status to determine appropriate action, including transport, referral to a healthcare provider, exclusion from school due to infectious symptoms, or return to class.
  • Administer medications as delegated by the school nurse, in accordance with established policies and protocols.
  • Perform delegated medical procedures, including but not limited to G-Tube feedings, urinary catheterizations, bathroom transfers and hygiene care, oxygen care and maintenance.
  • Document a comprehensive account of each health office visit in the student information system, including reported symptoms, observations and assessments, medication administration, and visit outcome.
  • Respond to medical emergencies on school grounds by providing and directing life-saving care until emergency services arrive.
  • Follow student Emergency Action Plans and administer life-saving medications for conditions including but not limited to diabetes, seizures, life-threatening allergies, and asthma.
  • Assist in the prevention and management of communicable diseases within the school setting.
  • Oversee students placed on the Concussion Protocol.
  • Manage students on the Concussion Protocol.
  • Maintain student health office records, including cumulative health documents, immunization records, medication orders, vision and hearing documents, and accident/injury records.
  • Coordinate student health needs between the teacher, nurse, school administration, and parents.
  • Create and distribute the student health concerns list to the necessary staff.
  • Complete accident/incident reports on necessary cases.
  • Maintain the cleanliness and organization of the health office.
  • Coordinate and prepare medications for all approved field trips.
  • Manage and maintain student immunization data to ensure compliance with state requirements.
  • Complete monthly tracking of student medication and provider order expiration dates.
  • Complete monthly AED checks of all AEDs on school grounds.
  • Assist the school nurse in conducting student vision and hearing screenings in compliance with state requirements.
  • Provide initial care for staff injuries occurring on school grounds.
  • Attend all required training sessions and Health Aide meetings and complete assigned online professional development training as needed to maintain compliance and enhance job-related skills.
  • Cover front desk duties when needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Understand and adhere to all State regulations, as well as Windsor Charter Academy's policies, procedures, and protocols, to ensure safe and compliant health office operations.
  • Demonstrate personal and professional excellence in all interactions and responsibilities, serving as a positive representative of Windsor Charter Academy.
  • Follow the school nurse's directives and guidance explicitly.
  • Maintain confidentiality in all aspects of the job.
