About The Position

The Head Women’s Basketball Coach is responsible for the overall administration of the women’s basketball program, including the direction, instruction and supervision of assistant/JV coaches. This role requires conducting the program according to all NCAA Division III, Northwest Conference and University rules and regulations, and being responsible for all aspects of practice preparation and competition coaching. The coach will function as a team player within the department, sharing the vision for the future of the department as outlined by the athletics strategic plan. Effective communication with athletic administration, including the Director of Athletics, eligibility/compliance, business operations, and sports medicine is essential. Collaboration with the head men’s basketball and head women’s volleyball coaches for gym usage and scheduling is also a key function. The position involves recruiting quality student-athletes, managing the program's budget, and adhering to purchasing and spending guidelines. Utilization of a centralized online athletics management platform for various administrative tasks is required. Scheduling competitions, officials, and travel arrangements, as well as planning in-season and out-of-season training, are also core responsibilities. The coach will cooperate with the head athletic trainer for athlete care, attend department meetings, and maintain driver eligibility for team transport and recruiting.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct the women’s basketball program according to all NCAA Division III, Northwest Conference and University rules and regulations
  • Responsible for all aspects of practice preparation and competition coaching
  • Function as a team player within the department and shares the vision for the future of the department as outlined by the athletics strategic plan
  • Maintain effective communication with the athletic administration including the Director of Athletics, eligibility/compliance, business operations, and sports medicine.
  • Work closely with the head men’s basketball and head women’s volleyball coaches to collaboratively manage usage of the gym for practices and competition scheduling.
  • Recruit quality student-athletes to the women’s basketball program, including the varsity and junior varsity teams, and maintain appropriate roster sizes as set by the athletic administration
  • Manage the women’s basketball budget
  • Responsible for administering and working within the parameters of operating, recruiting and work-study budgets.
  • Follow purchasing and spending guidelines as set by the University and athletic department, and submit all necessary reports and receipts as required by institutional policy.
  • Meet requested budget timelines as set by the athletic administration
  • Responsible for the purchasing of equipment, supplies and uniforms for the program adhering to department policies and allotted budget during a fiscal cycle
  • Utilize the centralized online athletics management platform required by Athletics Administration to include, but not limited to, student-athlete communication, calendar management (practice, workouts, meetings, travel, etc.), NCAA compliance, eligibility, recruiting, and roster management.
  • Schedule all competitions and officials as approved by the athletic administration
  • Schedule and manage all travel arrangements as necessary for team and recruiting purposes
  • Provide adequate and appropriate notice to the faculty for travel that involves loss of class time
  • Plan in-season and out of season training and practice expectations as allowed by NCAA and institutional rules.
  • Responsible for keeping practice periods for the sport within the confines of the time specified by department and NCAA policy and with due consideration to the coaching staff and the welfare of participant
  • Cooperate with the head athletic trainer to ensure that athletes receive quality care, prevention and treatment of injuries
  • Attend all Pacific Athletic Department coaches’ meetings and represent Pacific at all NWC women’s basketball coaches’ meetings
  • Maintain driver eligibility and certifications, specific to the transport of team members and for recruiting purposes
  • Effectively communicate expectations, team/ individual goals, and schedules in a timely and transparent manner with team members
  • Monitor and support student's academic progress
  • Maintain a team culture committed to improvement and competitive growth
  • Coach individual participants in the skills necessary for excellent achievement in the sport
  • Enforce disciplined and sportsperson like behavior at all times, and establish and oversee penalties for breach of such team standards by individual students
  • Exercise good judgment in projecting aspirational coaching behavior.
  • Lead by example in promoting a positive image for the program
  • Encourage good sportsmanship and foster positive athlete/coach relationships
  • Allow athletes to participate only after they are cleared for eligibility by the University and the NCAA
  • Responsible for the general upkeep and protection of equipment under the jurisdiction of the program
  • Other duties within the athletic department will be assigned to this position. Responsibilities which may be included but are not limited to game management, internal operations and/or other duties as assigned by the Director of Athletics.
