About The Position

The Head Volleyball Coach is responsible for planning, organizing, directing, and evaluating all aspects of the district's volleyball program. The coach is expected to develop student-athletes academically, athletically, socially, and emotionally while fostering a culture of discipline, teamwork, sportsmanship, integrity, and excellence. The Head Volleyball Coach provides leadership for the entire volleyball program by coordinating varsity, junior varsity, and middle school development, supervising assistant coaches, promoting academic success, maintaining compliance with district and athletic association regulations, and serving as a positive representative of the school district.

Requirements

  • Valid Mississippi Educator License (preferred if required by district policy)
  • Appropriate coaching certification
  • Current CPR/AED and First Aid certification (or ability to obtain)
  • Knowledge of volleyball rules, techniques, and strategies
  • Knowledge of injury prevention and athlete safety
  • Strong organizational, leadership, and communication skills

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive volleyball program aligned from middle school through varsity.
  • Establish a culture of discipline, accountability, teamwork, and competitive excellence.
  • Develop annual and long-range goals for the volleyball program.
  • Promote school spirit and positive representation of the district.
  • Teach volleyball fundamentals, advanced techniques, and game strategies.
  • Develop student-athletes physically, mentally, and emotionally.
  • Promote leadership, responsibility, teamwork, and sportsmanship.
  • Monitor academic progress and encourage student achievement.
  • Enforce eligibility requirements and team expectations.
  • Foster positive attitudes, self-confidence, and resilience.
  • Plan and conduct organized, safe, and effective practices.
  • Develop offensive and defensive strategies appropriate to team skill levels.
  • Prepare athletes for competition through proper conditioning and skill development.
  • Supervise all games, tournaments, practices, camps, and team activities.
  • Promote safe participation and injury prevention.
  • Supervise, mentor, and evaluate assistant volleyball coaches.
  • Delegate responsibilities appropriately.
  • Conduct regular coaching staff meetings.
  • Promote consistency in instruction and program philosophy.
  • Encourage professional growth among assistant coaches.
  • Develop and oversee strength and conditioning activities, skill development sessions, summer workouts and camps, open gym opportunities, youth volleyball clinics, and leadership development activities.
  • Maintain inventory of uniforms, volleyballs, nets, and equipment.
  • Ensure equipment is properly maintained and safely used.
  • Recommend equipment purchases within budget.
  • Maintain the cleanliness and organization of locker rooms, gyms, and storage areas.
  • Report maintenance and safety concerns promptly.
  • Assist in developing and managing the annual volleyball budget.
  • Monitor expenditures responsibly.
  • Coordinate fundraising activities in accordance with district policies.
  • Maintain accurate financial records for all program funds.
  • Communicate effectively with parents regarding team expectations, schedules, and student progress.
  • Promote positive relationships with families, alumni, and community members.
  • Represent the school district professionally at all athletic events.
  • Support youth volleyball initiatives to strengthen future participation.
  • Ensure compliance with district policies and procedures, athletic department regulations, state athletic association rules, eligibility requirements, safety protocols, and student confidentiality laws.
  • Immediately report violations or concerns to school administration.
  • Supervise student-athletes during travel to and from contests.
  • Ensure appropriate supervision before, during, and after athletic events.
  • Coordinate travel arrangements with the athletic department.
  • Maintain student safety throughout all school-sponsored activities.
  • Monitor the academic progress of all volleyball players.
  • Encourage tutoring and intervention when necessary.
  • Work collaboratively with teachers, counselors, and administrators.
  • Promote graduation readiness and postsecondary success.
  • Model and teach integrity, respect, accountability, leadership, self-discipline, sportsmanship, teamwork, and effective communication.
  • Serve as a positive role model for students and the community.
  • Maintain the highest standards of professionalism and ethical conduct.
  • Support the school district's mission, vision, and goals.
  • Foster an environment of respect, inclusion, and sportsmanship.
  • Collaborate with administrators, faculty, and other coaches to enhance the overall athletic program.
  • Promote academic excellence alongside athletic achievement.
