About The Position

The Head Tennis Professional is responsible for helping the Director of Tennis oversee the Tennis program, facilities and staff. This position is compensated with a base hourly rate plus commission earned on tennis and pickleball lessons. Total compensation will vary based on lesson volume and participation. This position is minimally supervised but does have supervisory responsibility and access to confidential information, including property owner files, email communications, annual budgets and reports.

Requirements

  • Must maintain membership in recognized United States Professional Tennis Registry (USPTR) or Racket Sports Professional Asscociation (RSPA).
  • Must have a solid tennis background.
  • Either played college tennis or has work experience teaching at a club.
  • Playing level should be at least a 4.5 level.
  • Must adhere to the USPTR’s or RSPA’s Code of Ethics.
  • Must possess the skills to teach both individual and group lessons.
  • Must be able to manage a round robin as well as other club events.
  • Ability to teach all levels of tennis players; i.e. beginners, intermediate, advanced.
  • Certified to provide professional tennis and pickleball instruction and equipment fitting, and stringing.
  • Strong verbal communications skills.
  • Self-motivated and self-promoted.
  • Conduct self in a professional manner commensurate with the USPTR or RSPA Code of Ethics.
  • Must be able to work outside and tolerate various weather conditions, including wet and/or humid conditions & extreme heat.
  • Must be able to stand for a prolonged period of time.
  • Must be able to lift and carry 25 pounds and push or pull weight in excess of 50 pounds.
  • Must be able to play tennis at a high club-competitive level.
  • Must be able to speak using fluent English.
  • Must be able to see the computer screen, paperwork, etc.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the Tennis program, facilities and staff, assisting the Director of Tennis.
  • Supervise all tennis and pickleball play.
  • Charge court fees and other privilege fees.
  • Provide competent tennis instruction for all groups and levels of players.
  • Assist in the operations of any player handicapping system or track player rankings.
  • Enforce all the club’s / facility’s rules and regulations.
  • Assist in operating and maintaining a reputable pro shop staffed with competent personnel and featuring quality merchandise, professional racket-stringing, and services.
  • Devote a reasonable number of hours to playing tennis with members.
  • Plan tennis and pickleball events to promote the sport and fellowship.
  • Prepare tennis clinics, films, fun playing events or tennis education programs.
  • Represent the club / facility in professional tennis activities.
  • Assist the Director of Tennis in preparing and planning the details of tennis events and activities.
  • Promote the club and the tennis programs and events.
  • Ensure all facilities are ready for events.
  • Secure draw sheets, score cards, and other necessary items for tournaments.
  • Prepare and distribute event information sheets and entry forms.
  • Coordinate with the club / facility on use of other departmental amenities by participants.
  • Be available for rules decisions and other necessary coordination through events.
  • Assist with programs that serve the entire membership (juniors, adults, seniors, etc.).
  • Organize periodic special events to attract and retain members’ tennis and pickleball interest.
  • Provide instruction to all levels of play to enhance broad-based member participation.
  • Provide educational opportunities for members to understand and enjoy tennis and pickleball.
  • Assist in the preparation of an annual calendar of tennis and pickleball activities.
  • Coordinate and include other departments to create inter-club connectivity.
  • Perform necessary maintenance and upkeep of the courts when assigned.
  • Ensure all necessary equipment for court and facility maintenance is on hand and properly maintained.
  • Keep the Director of Tennis informed on the status of the club’s equipment for budgeting purposes.
  • Ensure all areas of the tennis club are neat, clean, and presentable at all times.
  • Maintain a professional tennis pro shop, offering top line equipment, accessories, and the latest in tennis apparel.
  • Be aware of trends and fads in tennis style and fashion.
  • Maintain tennis merchandise at a reasonable level.
  • Conduct monthly inventories for all merchandise.
  • Provide necessary coordination with the club’s accounting department for billing operations.
