About The Position

The University of Maine at Farmington's Sweatt-Winter Childcare & Early Education Center is seeking a creative and responsive Preschool Head Teacher to lead a classroom community in a supportive, hands-on environment. This role involves guiding young minds through dynamic, interactive, and age-appropriate daily activities that spark curiosity and support individual learning styles. The Head Teacher will maintain a safe, inclusive, and nurturing environment using positive guidance, responsive caregiving, and anti-bias principles. A key aspect of the role is building community by connecting closely with families through regular updates and parent conferences, while treating every child and family with dignity and respect. Additionally, the position requires tracking child development through screenings, portfolio assessments, and documentation of developmental milestones. The Head Teacher will also mentor future educators by supporting and evaluating practicum students.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, or a related field required.
Current First Aid and CPR certifications required.
Strong communication, adaptability, and classroom management skills.
Collaborative spirit and basic tech proficiency.
